HandBrake - Open source, GPL, multiplatform video transcoder. Reaper - A surprisingly great multitrack audio recorder and editor (Like ProTools, Vegas, Logic, etc). Made by the same people who make Winamp. Doesn't meet the requirements for this thread, because they want you to pay for it, but there is absolutely no restriction to using it indefinitely without paying. Doing so does not break any agreement between the user and developer.
You can download all of the Marathon games made by bungie and also a bunch of user created versions of their Durandal engine.
How about emulators? to play old bungie games (hint hint pathways) and such. emulators like Basilisk II.
Can any of these have a slight chance of contracting a virus? I wanted to download GIMP and try out photo editing, but can I trust this?

I just noticed this thread so thought I would suggest couple things: -Window media player classic Has helped me a lot just a simple media player that can play a lot of file types that is just a .exe No install or anything just a plug and play. -Hamachi Simple tool to help if you just want to connect with friend/s directly online to chat/play. I was going to suggest this since it wasn't in the OP Since it hasn't been added to OP I'm not sure it's gonna be updated.. Oh well still worth posting just in case.
Well considering epic hasn't been on since September it wouldn't get updated unless a mod wants to help out.
