I placed two pics onto my fileshare.

I put them both into a fileset.

I deleted them both from the fileshare.

The fileset still has one, but the other is gone.

In other cases, four pics were still in a fileset, while another fileset lost all five pics - all of this after I deleted the pics from the fileshare.

All of the uploading to the fileshare, attaching to a fileset, then deleting from the fileshare occurred within five minutes.

Can anyone tell me why there is an apparently random decision to keep some pics referenced though they are not referenced from my fileshare and not others?

I'm kind of confused about this as well, because sometimes I take pictures and they just show up on my recent pictures on B.net, but other times I have to put them in my fileshare.

However, this isn't the right place for this thread, the Reach Forge Discussion is for just that, talk about maps you're making or ideas you've got. I'll request a mod move it for ya :)

    Moved to Reach Discussion.

Also, I believe this is because for your files to remain in a fileset, the files need to be present on at least one fileshare.

You'll probably find that someone else has actually uploaded your picture from your first fileset onto their fileshare because they like it which is why it remains. This is how it happened on Halo 3 anyway, as I used to use Filesets to save my work off my fileshare, but later found half of them missing when I went back to them.

as I said, stevo, only a few minutes passed between adding them to file share, adding them to fileset, then deleting them from fileshare.

I don't buy into someone copied them to their fileshare. that isn't logical at all.

It's buggy. Why does Reach sometimes overwrite the wrong map when you use Save and not Save As in forge? Only Bungie knows (and even they may not actually know - they certainly haven't bothered to fix it).

The only thing I can think of, apart from what Stevo suggested - are any of the pics in your Recent Screenshots? You're probably aware that there's lag between saving a screenshot (on your XBox) and seeing it appear in Recent Screenshots on the site. If you turn your box off or disconnect from Live prematurely, some screenshots might not make it. Also, the order in which they upload to Recent Screenshots may not be exactly the order you saved them in. I can't really account for the lag or the sequencing issue (I just have learned to leave my box on and logged in until I see all screenshots appear). But I'm wondering if maybe the screenshots that didn't clear frm the fileset were ones that made it into Recent Screenshots, and the others didn't make it. It stands to reason that Bungie's server has to save all your Recent Screenshots somewhere, but if they don't appear in that list, then maybe they're not saved anywhere at all. So once you delete them from your fileshare, they won't appear in the file set either, because they literally don't exist anywhere any more. Just a theory.

Filesets are unpredictable. It's not as elegant, but you can use an image hosting site and drop a link to the album in the comments on your file. If somebody's in a position to look at the fileset, they are probably just as likely to look at the comments.
