Ville de la Grotte Hey all, I'm back again from another absence, my Reach disc was stuck in my old Xbox, without an eject button, at someone else's house (even longer story). Anyways, I transfered the files from my old xbox to my new one and started working on this map again. It's about 90% done! The maps called Ville de la Grotte which is French for City of the Cave. The small, abandoned city goes on into the cliff, as a cave, but the playing space is just the harbor. A small boat marks the center of the map, with a little bit of human and some stolen covenant cargo on it. It's meant for 16 players, but I think a good game of Squad Slayer could be played on it. Now onto the part you probably skipped to anyway! PICTURES Shot of the whole map, from blue side. Blue Base. Red Base (the city supposedly goes on further behind it). The "Boat" (also green base). The highway thing that folds up to let boats through, just allows for some more vehicle freedom. Reds forward base, or orange base. Weapons list: 4x DMR 4x Needle Rifle 2x Needler 2x Plasma Repeater 2x Magnum 2x Plasma Pistol 2x Sniper Rifle 1x Shotgun 1x Pro Pipe 6x Frag Grenade 5x Plasma Grenade Vehicle List: 2x Warthog 2x Mongoose 1x Ghost 1x Banshee Any criticism/thoughts/ideas are welcome! ONE MO THEENG! I'd love to get some playtesting done on this map next Sunday, so if you're free that day, comment saying that please Also, if you have a BTB map you want to test we might as well while we have the people together.
??? = Slightly dipping into water + near waterfall + minimally obstructed lines of sight The only thing you have going for this is there isn't too much glass. I don't like flat maps anyways because they don't really give a feel of cohesion. If you're making a BTB map and more than 20% of your coliseum walls are snapped to 90 degrees it's usually not good.
There's one point I agree with there, the dipping into water bit. Me and my friend are going to work on raising everything out of the water, but I'm still going to have one bit that's sunken in. Near waterfall? Whats wrong with that? Minimally obstructed line of sight? Go play Hemorrhage Flat maps? ...It's not that flat, there's a lot of elevation variation... Coliseum walls not being 90 degrees? I wouldn't have a floor otherwise and I have no other use for them... Thanks for the criticism though
??? = framerate issues. I thought that would be obvious. When I say it's flat, I mean the floor. Flat ground usually leads to boring games. Slopes make the game interesting.
i suppose but theres tons of buildings and such to entertain you. Yup I am fully aware that framerate will probably be an issue, I just want to get 16 people on it to figure out how bad.
The waterfall makes a lot of noise, thus making it annoying. It also causes some framerate issues. It does look good though. Hemorrhage doesn't have a bunch of pieces seen in the long sightline so it doesn't have a problem with framerate, though since you have multiple pieces it'll be more apparent here. I agree there is a good amount of height variation here. The map looks great, but a little small for BTB. I'd like to see how it plays though, so shoot me an invite if your testing.
I see what you're saying... the waterfall does make an annoying noise, but when you're playing I'll bet you 10 bucks you'd forget about it. I see the waterfall framerate issue too... I might just move the whole map somewhere else if that becomes a huge problem. [br][/br]Edited by merge: oh and I thought he was talking about sightlines to other players
