Welcome to my latest creation! I've been working on this map for about a week now. Its an Asymmetrical room based map inspired by maps like Damnation, Cold Storage, Condemned and some of the great asym maps that have been put out recently by you jabroni's. I built this completely blind. I had no plans for the layout or theme's in mind (which is why it still needs a name). Its made to support 4v4 and most asym gametypes. Looking good...I like how you have captured the grass, sand and sea in this map. Some really nice sections, I like the glass room and the section going over the sea.I don't think the large blue incline looks good and the lights in the 2 x 3 - 2 x 4... But i can understand they are there for calllouts, it's the fact that the piece it is on is already quite busy. Minor things tho... Look forward to seeing this one finished!
Call it "Brick" or "Pizza" or "Pepperspray".. whatever. I'm sick of names like Despeluncaphobia or Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. We're not all scientists, people. The map itself looks awesome, by the last picture I can tell it wouldn't be hard to navigate and find your way easily. I especially love the theater with all the glass. Is that antenna supposed to be a video projector? Original idea
Window room > everything. Audience - it's a mid-sized map. We played it 4v4 last week and it went fine, though fast. Maybe about 80% as large as Chill Out/Cold Storage if I had to guess.
Nice aesthetics, but the curved windows are really throwing me off. Also, Your use of stunt ramps looks bad. It irks me. Other than that, this looks gorgeous. I can haz DL link?
Map is looking really good gorilla, I especially love the observatory. I might be able to give some name suggestions after playing on it, but as of now I have no suggestions. Looking forward to playing this one because the complexity and height variation really interest me. P.S. I just noticed that a map I have been working on for the past two days is built on the same part of the island :/
Window Room screams frame rate out the arse to me... Hope it performs better than I expect. Call it Deviation or something cool.
We've only played it once so far but no framerate issues were reported. However, the window room didn't get a lot of play - action tended to focus elsewhere. I don't think the glass is really a problem, as it's all outward-facing and in my experience, it only really kills framerate when you see forge objects through it; however, the sheer number of objects needs to create what is basically one wall - that could be an issue.
Thanks! I used the stunt ramps to add something different for color but I may remove them. And there are no lights on the map because I'm afraid of framerate on this one. Thats an OS in the first pic. Ya I'm getting sick of the ridiculous names that have nothing to do with the map as well. And Its relatively easy to navigate. But its hard to understand an asymm map from just pics without an overview. (pet peev) What about the windows is throwing you off exactly? haha And like I said to TimmyP, I may swap out those stunt ramps for something different but we shall see. I suppose you haz DL link. I just have to put it on my fileshare later. What ND said. So far no problems. But I changed a few things so we'll see what happens this week.
The windows just kinda look sloppy. I didn't like it in Timmy's remake of Cold storage either. I guess it could just be one of those personal preference things.
This looks really unique actually, good job curving those building blocks( Ithink 1x4). But then wouldn't the window room ruin the effect because you could see the pieces. Looks like it was somewhat inspired by platypus by using railings for walking across. The atmosphere you created is really nice too.
Thanks Shik. Those are 1x2's and I hadn't actually seen Platypus until you compared them. Those were inspired more from Damnation. Atmosphere was something I was really striving for here. So thats good to know. So if I had to pick a theme, it would be some sort of laboratory. I don't know if that helps with names. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Ok so I made some slight aesthetic changes to the stunt ramps in both orange room and green lift. I kept the ramps because I like the contrast of the black, and added Platform Y's over the blue lines with their respective colors. I realize I added more pieces, which could be detrimental to my framerate, so I did a split screen test and all seems well for now. I also updated the OP with the new pics for your comparison pleasure. And added the new version to my fileshare and updated the link.
the only thing I could say is the observatory looks odd with a colisium wall sticking out in an odd way. plus, while making a dome is cool sometimes but in this case it looks sketchy as you can see the joining of the pieces from inside. The rest of the map on the other hand looks great, creative layout with some nice walling design. Invite me for game testing if you ever decide to do so.
Thanks. I actually removed that coli wall because of its sheer hideousness. And I think the only thing I could do to make the windows look less sloppy, would be to make it less dome-like and straighten them out. I'll be testing this Monday night. If I'm short on players I'll be sure to throw an invite your way.
This looks quite beautiful. The curved window room reminds me of Nutduster's map, and the stunt ramp lift looks awesome. Maybe i'll see if I can sneak in a one-flag game sometime.
looks very nice ive been thinkin of some names which are Retention Aliption containment so thas wot i got but very nice map very varied and ice and cleanly made well done
