You know that awesome map you've been working on? The one that you've put so much of your time into? If someone tries to bother you when you are on it you ignore them and forget they even said anything. You have spent hours on it, not even bothering to look at the clock, and when you finally do finish and look at the clock it's 5 am.

What do you call that? Besides losing track of time and time flies when you're having fun. I call it a forging spree.

I call it addiction. But that's just my opinion.

Just One More Level is the liable party here, and that's something which isn't exclusive to forging (or video games for that matter). In this case it's also more a self-motivated outlet rather than a compelling one, so addictive tendencies aren't really at work here; however, obsessive behaviours are still probable.

It would seem that prolonged forging sessions and level building are just when you're trying to finish what you started, something which is fine in most cases; you just need to know when to step back, though the odd time you really get into it isn't too bad (provided you're able to sleep in the next day if needed).

Regardless, this sort of behaviour has many names:

    "On a roll."
    "In the zone."
    "Concentrated state of flow."
    "Hyperfocus."

Very useful and strangely enjoyable, it's seen everywhere; the only problem is the loss of sleep and occassional neglect of other responsibilities. But again, this is a self-motivated outlet rather than a compelling one; it's generally easier to know when to step back so that those other responsibilities get attended to.

Well ladies and gentlemen we have here two polar opposites! I troll and serious face. It was a joke topic to come up with a name for long forging sessions that make you loose track of time. /Get with the program.

Shoe and i went on a forging spree. Rather than looking at the clock to see it had been hours, we saw that it's now been six months. What do you call that?

I do the opposite, I'll be working on a map then someone like SaltyKoala or another friend needs testing on a map. So I join, then I go back to forge and lose ideas, it makes me mad at points. I have forged for hours though, I think if Halo Reach doesn't have forge, I wouldn't be playing it always.
