Hello everyone! I want to forge an infection map and having a hard time trying to figure out a unique theme for it. Can you give give me any good ideas?
Mines have been done, graveyards have been done, crashed vehicles have been done, labs have been done, Infection has been covered very broadly and extensively, but I think I have something. I'll PM you.
In order to help you think of a theme, I need to know first what kind of map you want to make. Do you want players to free roam and just find a holdout spot for themselves, or do you want it to be journey / campaign styled where players have to move along during the game, or do you want them to hold out at their spawn positions and have zombies infiltrate the room from all directions so the humans will have to work together and keep their eye on different entrances? Because for every type of infection you can think of another theme.
Well in that case you could make a map in a forest, but you would need to have the map Ridgeline in order to do that if you want to use trees, and I don't know if you have that map or not. If not, then you could also try to make a medieval themed map, like a castle with dungeons or an ancient settlement with rocks and water and stuff like that surrounding it. Or if you don't like these ideas try think of infection map on a very high mountain, with some flat stone looking surfaces where the humans could try to hold out and small mountain passes connecting them. You could even make some flooded Atlantis like place putting a lot of buildings under water. A lot has been done already but there are plenty locations that weren't used yet, and they don't necessarily have to be difficult to forge. You can keep that in mind.
The more I think about this possible theme, the more I think that it must have been done, but has anyone seen a lava themed map yet? With the red object color option, (the underside of a sniper nest has thin color lines- while propped upside down against a wall it would look pretty convincing), a kill ball here and a red light there with a respawning vehicle or fusion coil (I'm not completely sure that those would explode inside a kill ball) with surrounding rocks for a larger and a smaller erupting volcano, the designers of forge seemed to have had it in mind. Soft and hard kill barriers would seem appropriate. I suppose that the cave between the island and the canyon as well as however much surrounding area is necessary would be the best location. I don't have any ideas of how you could achieve balance, fun, and originality (in terms of gameplay), but I don't see how these objects would impede one from building a functional infection map around them.
