If anyone's interested in checking out the map/taking it off my hands, I put up the link to it in my fileshare.

Alright, let's get right to the point. This a remake of Snowbound from Halo 3. I started this last night and finished the basic layout today. I know it wasn't the most popular map in the world, but I'm mainly making it because by my count, it's the only remake that hasn't been done (well). On with the pictures, shall we?

    A nice overview

Bird's eye. Notice the apparent lack of the infamous shotgun cave; I will elaborate later.

Where the shotgun cave would be is this central area, with a grenade launcher and plenty of cover for cross-fire.

Inside one of the bases. I figured the sniper would be a better replacement for the beam rifle than the focus rifle. It's not as empty as it looks.

I couldn't properly make the tunnels, but I came up with a solution that I hope will still work. In place of the tunnel entrances is this, guarded by a shield door. A soft kill barrier also fills the small "pocket" of every teleporter to discourage camping.

The infamous shotgun cave. The teleporters above lead to either end of this tunnel. They are guarded by shield doors and soft kills, not to mention that the shape of the teleporter fills the volume behind the shield. High teleporter (the base with the sniper) gets the shotgun, while low gets a concussion rifle (meant to replace the brute shot that would normally spawn above, it also helps to repel any would-be shot-gunners).

Well, that's about it. School is keeping me busy, hence the reason for the adoption. Should you choose to adopt this, know that the link to my fileshare won't be up for some time (Live wouldn't let me upload).

    Things left to finish:
    *Tweak weapon set/spawn times
    *Add spawns
*Add some of that sexy Covenant purple

Anyway, that's it. Thanks for checking this out. If you'd like to take this off my hands, please let me know and I will get to you as soon as possible (it'll be a while). Thanks.

    Pics are broken fyi.

It just doesn't feel like snowbound without snow to make understanding the terrain difficult, and the grenade spam cave. I feel like snowbound was significantly bigger too.

Snowbound was actually pretty small. The bases were about 20 ft from each other, and the edge of the map was about 30-40 ft away from them. Also, there's more space than it looks in that one picture. I'll try to fix the others.

In a way, though, pyro, aren't those good things? Now Snowbound won't play as shitty.
btw, the grenade spam will still be there, only it will be confined to that one tunnel now.

I liked snowbound a lot, and this looks decent except for the tunnel I feel like something could have been done creatively by mixing rocks with blocks/ structural pieces to get the right size and look. Snowbound had a lot of vertical change in the end, and I think it might be possible. If not, I suppose that is the best compromise unless you wanted to take some budget and make a more accurate tunnel from scratch.

I tried to make the original tunnels, but the elevation simply isn't low enough (and this is true anywhere on FW) to make something that would look decent. I figured this is the best way to keep the map both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

I personally feel like you should get rid of the tunnel. It seems like a campers paradise. There are only 2 ways in and out which would make it really easy to hold. I think you could probably spice up the middle and make a really cool reimagination. Snowbound was one of my personal favorites. And it would be cool of you could make a ghost tunnel. And if you don't mind I think I might start a snowbound inspired map. I think it would turn out well. Good luck with this. It's definatley the first snowbound I've seen in reach.

I don't really see the point of a remake of a map that is so radically different. This might play OK in its own right but it will play not much like Snowbound. If anything you should call this a "re-imagination" or something, because it is surely not a remake - in almost every major detail, this map is quite different from its inspiration.

An inspiration is more accurate, and it was what I was actually going for. As for how it plays, I'm hoping that the general playstyle is the same, only with slightly less camping.

Hey guys, sorry to bump the thread, but I'm replying to the comments. People seem to want the original layout of Snowbound, cave and all. So, given what's posted, what do you think I should do with the map? Should I try to make the actual cave, or maybe find an entirely different, more suitable location for the map?

If anyone would like to help me forge this, you're welcome to join. As a bit of a preview, I will also (finally) post the download link to this map somewhere around Thanksgiving.
