In a lot of zombie movies the survivors find themselves constantly being pushed back, always falling into more secure locations but at the same time limiting their ability to do anything but fall back further and deeper as the hoards approach. A linear map with clear points where teams would need to fall back would be a lot of fun. Most infection maps now take place in wide open areas, like malls or towns, and yeah technically this imitates the location where a zombie movie may take place, but it doesn't really elicit the same sort of feeling. I play a town map and I'm wandering around with complete freedom. Roving around a town does not create the feeling of avoiding a hoard, it creates the sensation of dodging one predator. Set up a map to simulate the feeling of being pushed back by the combined force of a group. Set up maybe a castle where players are being pushed deeper and deeper as more zombies approach, eventually ending up in long forgotten catacombs. Make the player feel trapped as he shrinks back into safety. Don't let him out when he leaves one area. Eventually force his back against the wall.
I was pointing out what he was implying. Call him mean, not me. This is true. While I've played many good Infection maps, I've only played a very small handful where the Humans actually felt like they were being forced back.
Exactly. And you can do this on Alpha Zombies so the first one is invisible, very fast and he is alien queen.
