    Bah, I give up.

I've just spent about an hour searching for the articles I read about the original gravemind. Trouble is, there's a lot of content out there that people just make up. A lot of pages contradict each other too. I stumbled across that information months ago when I was viewing the backstory behind all the terminals and the forerunners and how it all came to be.

Essentially, the forerunner bred the Flood as a storage device that could be interacted with. They placed all the information inside it and the Flood could recite the information on command without hesitation. As the storage capacity could never be filled, it was seen as better than an AI for keeping hold of information... the problem with it was that it evolved and had a thirst for the information.

If you guys didn't already see it, they show what the Forerunners look like in the second terminal video they released from Halo CEA. I have no idea if this is the first time they've EVER shown them, but it was a first for me.

They also show the other monitors from each instalation.

Ah, I finally found an article linked with it.

I was wrong, the Forerunner didn't create the Flood, it was the Precursor. It's unknown why from a "factual" point, but they're commonly described as a failsafe weapon against the Forerunner in the Forerunner-Precursor war.

The Precursors also created the Forerunners, or at least accellerated their evolution into the Tier 1 of the Forerunner Technological Advancement chart. The Precursors were the only species to ever exceed the Forerunner's and are the only species to have been considered for Tier 0.

The Precursors had inter-galactic travel... which fits in with the theory that when chief's floating around in space between galaxies, the planet he comes across could be a Precursor planet. Although, the Precursors were said to have become extinct in the Forerunner-Precursor war. The Ancient Evil that is referred to, could well be the Ancient Evil to Forerunners. I haven't managed to find any details about why the Forerunner-Precursor war broke out... but I think it has something to do with the Mantle.

Human's are also direct descendants of the Precursors. Which is why the Forerunner selected the Human species as the Reclaimers.

As the Forerunner had the ability to Engineer a species to specific needs, there are no boundaries preventing the Precursors from engineering the Flood for similar purposes.

mini article on one guys theory

In answer to what happened to the grunts, 80% joined the elites in their little rebellion but they were kept as enemies in the game so as not to damage gameplay

Not to **** in your cereal or anything, but the Forerunners were already seen in Halo Legends. ;)

Still, I think that's the first time all of the Monitors have been shown. From what I recall, we've only previously seen three; Guilty Spark, Penitent Tangent, and one other. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Oh, and as for new enemies, it's highly possible. But it's also highly likely that it'll be the Covenant again, or at least just the species that make up the Covenant. In Legends, it was said at one point that the Forerunners catalogued every species of sentient beings from either all the Galaxies or the entire Universe (can't remember), and stored them in... some location I can't remember right at this point, either :p. But the fact is, there is the possibility of having entirely new enemies being cloned as a defensive parameter in the game due to the Chief's presence inside the Shield World, if it is a Shield World.

That is literally impossible. No matter how technologically advanced you are, there is just no possible way to visit every galaxy. Even if you visit one galaxy every second, it would take you around 1500 years at least.

    Sorta what security said...

But, Forerunners weren't able to travel between Galaxies. Only the Precursors were.

...that video doesn't say anything about intergalactic travel.
The Forerunner Technology scale or whatever rates them at Tier 1. Tier 0 is the only capable level of inter-galactic travel.

Yes and my statement stands. It was impossible. They catalogued every thinking species WITHIN the galaxy. Not in the entire universe. Forerunners could not reach the next galaxy. Their technology was inferior to the Precursors who were rumoured to be able to travel between galaxies.

The Forerunner's built the Ark in a dorment region of space between galaxies so it was far enough away from the galaxy for the flood not to reach unless they used one of the Forerunner portals.

Well they repopulated pretty much all the species involved in Halo so I don't know if they can travel further then a galaxy or if every specie in Halo is in the one galaxy.

Not really the point, Point is They killed everyone in the galaxy(every/most specie in the halo universe eg.elites/brutes/humans/etc) then replaced them, which was said impossible and proven wrong.

If the impossible was aimed at intergalactic travel maybe you where right but I don't know what that has to do with repopulating this 1 galaxy's species.

    Edited by merge:

I have a theory about the Halo Wars shield world's contamination for you, Stevo. It is a possibility.

It could be that the Halo Wars shield world(lets just call the shield world,"Sigma" as a short name") was an early made shield world in case anything happened like a supernova and because it was early, flood were kept there for information storage. But when the flood went rampant, Sigma was abandoned by the forerunners and the flood were left to spread. A theory to how the flood survived for so long on Sigma is that maybe other embryos and DNA samples were kept on Sigma for emergencies and the flood fed off that for all those years.

Ok, 1) I said "I think", so it was based on a memory of having watched Legends about a year or more ago, and 2) it's fiction, anything is possible in fiction. ;)

Yes, I have taken what Stevo said about them not being able to travel between galaxies into account now, and I know it's canon, but my point still stands; anything is possible in fiction.

Anyway, who cares? I was just using it as an example, didn't matter if I was right or wrong about it because where they got the DNA samples from wasn't the subject matter, the fact that they had them was. ;)

    ok

I think that the elephant could make in appearance. In Halo Wars, the elephant was used as a mobile base. Well, the sphere that Master Chief is in is far away from UNSC controlled space, and unable to receive steady supplies from an orbiting ship, so a mobile base would make sense, IMO.

    You're not getting the storyline.

The Halo rings have a range... they can only kill things inside a barrier that's inside our own Galaxy. Anything outside the Galaxy (and more specificaly, the barrier), remains alive. However, none of the species can travel between galaxies, so whatever happens inside the Milky-way, stays inside.

This means, any Forerunners who were outside the boundaries or stayed on the Ark when the rings were fired would remain alive. They could also have collonised a new planet or anything.

Bearing in mind, the Forerunners had the ability to create planets with their technology, so spending 100,000 years building a planet to use as their homeworld outside of the Milkyway isn't impossible.
