I have always wanted to make a map with some nice window pieces to it. However every time I do the stupid grey coloring around all the glass makes it look messed up. I wish there was a section of pure glass pieces that were different shapes and sizes. Does anyone else agree? Feel free to discuss.
I agree, I'd like some nice clear windows. I actually created some (at great expense) on a map I released a long time ago called Arctic Outpost. Basically you just spawn a grid wall and overlay double door pieces on it to cover up the grid lines, then block off the rest of the grid from view with walls/floors. I used that trick to make both a bank of windows and a cool-looking floor. The funny thing is, most people who play that map don't even notice it - my budget-wrecking aesthetics were all for naught!
That sounds like a great idea and the fact that no one noticed it sucks! Sorry dude. =( But congrags on coming up with the idea to use a grid though!
This comes back to a comment I made in one of the thousands of threads about "What You Want in Forge 3". I wish there were in/destructible panels of glass like the ones in Reflection available in Forge, but I doubt it would ever be implemented as people would go nuts with them and make some stupid maps. But still, clear glass panels of various shapes and sizes that weren't destructible would be a nice addition. But again, I don't know if they would be feasible as they may incur wrath on frame rate.
I agree with that, the glass is just strange in forge. Whoever decided the glass needed grey etching needs to be punched. Luckily this doesnt alter gameplay and few notice during a game. As for you, Xun, I agree with your comment on wanting destructible glass, I think that could pose for some interesting scenarios. like maybe it takes 5 hits then for the rest of the game it's gone. Losing cover would change the map's play.
More destructible objects in general would be great. I'd love to have glass and wood panels that could be used to make destructible cover/walls/floors. That along with switches for gates and bridges (think Last Resort) would allow us to make some very cool dynamic maps for objective games.
This would be great. And not only for objective games, but invasion (unless you were counting that in the objective games..). Destructible, clear glass would be great to have along with other destructible things. ...and more "natural" things to choose from instead of just rocks. Like..smoke/steam or changing atmosphere (rain[heavy to light], overcast, day, night). And also giving objects' shadows better..."reaction" to lighting. But I am asking for too much now lol
Take note that if this turns into a thread in which the primary input is: "what I wish we had", I'm closing it. We have PLENTY of those already.
You can flip the "glass cover" pieces in the decorative category to get clean glass that doesn't have the border you're talking about. However, it will take a little more effort to build that section of the map around the piece so that you only get the glass and not the frame of it.
I've done that before, works well if you can get it to look right. Especially since there's a slightly angled edge on one side. I did it on a map I started about 3 or 4 months ago but haven't touched for nearly as long. Should get around to that...
