I want to get into forging, I just have no idea what to make. I need ideas. I guess I want to forge casual maps that I can play with friends competitively. Not minigames, but casual maps for competitive play. If that makes sense.
I understand what you mean by casual for competitive play. Why don't you try your hand at an invasion map? Perhaps base it off something from a movie, a book, or draw inspiration from somewhere else, possibly within a game universe you're familiar with. There are infinite possibilities, you just have to draw inspiration from what you have.
If your ever bored at work or school just draw a sketch on a peice of paper and try to make it. That's how a lot of maps start.
Thats what I use do, although it doesn't work for me. I draw a sketch and then I go to forge and found out the design sucks, and I had to ditch the idea, but now I just forge as I go, it worked great so far.
Honestly, and this is going to sound weird, but I come up with a name first, then I try to draw a blueprint which I feel would work with the name, then I make it and see where I was overly ambitious in my head >.<
I just go into forge and piss around for a few minutes, then I come up with an idea. When that doesen't work, I play some customs and think about a map idea from that sort of gametype.
