It looks like Microsoft thinks we need yet another change to our dashboards. It looks like this update is to make the Xbox even more Kinect friendly. My fear is that means less on the screen at once because everything has to be so freak'n big for the Kinect to work. Twist Control will add live TV among other new features. What do you think? Are you looking forward to this update?
I, For one, am looking very forward to the new update. I think however the Kinect Friendly changes will not have as big as an effect for the people that do not have Kinect. Live TV? Youtube? **** yeah! The only new thing I'd want is an internet browser for the Xbox. Windows Internet Explorer is Microsoft made stuff so why can't I just get Windows on my Xbox?
I don't have Kinect yet but it looks cool. Also, check ou this trailer for it. I'll try to get it to embed when I go on my lunch break YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
Modding purposes. If you've ever heard of jailbreakme.com, it's the same principal, but with an Xbox. I just hope this new dashboard is faster than the current.
Which is silly, because mods are the reason PC gaming is huge. Sure there are bad mods, but if you set up a system run on servers, all sorts of great things can happen. Entire new games can be made (see; counterstrike.) But yeah, this DB better be amazing. The second one was my favorite, the first sucked balls, and the current is somewhere in between. I just don't want it to get worse I guess...
See most valve games; TF2, Counter Strike, DOTA But yeah, if you listened to the Forgecast, I spend the last 5-10 min talking about how consoles could develop something similar to VAC for bad mods. People could run their own servers, choose the server they want to play in, etc. It would be a win-win.
Exactly. But the biggest problem is, I'm pretty sure Microsoft would rather make money. Having a mod system, which pretty much ensures a shitload more gameplay at no extra price would be something they see as missing out on money. Which annoys the **** out of me, because gaming could be so much more than it already is.
They make plenty from Xbox live subscriptions. They could charge users a small fee to run their servers on Xbox live. Just some small licensing things like this keep this a very real possibility, except they don't think of it like that. Besides, having extensive modding makes the game even more popular, ALA TF2, CS:S, etc.
Ughh... Not another stupid white square dashboard... I want my slides back from 2007 or my Dark Dashboard back from before November. I think the current and next dashboard are way too bright and I want some control over that. I would personally love it if they take the data from the old dashboards and updated it with all the safety features and new additions since their time and then let us choose what our dashboard was like. (I'd totally keep my slides, just for nostalgia)
I miss the OLD dashboard. with tabs and stuff. let you customize the tabs themselves, carbon black <3
**** yeah, that was boss. I distinctly remember them changing because it wasn't "User friendly" apparently. Maybe give us the choice of Dashboards, like between Blades, A kinect one and the current annoying as **** White Boxes.
I have no problem with the dashboard as it is now, but I also would like a change. I like how microsoft updates the dashboard every year, its like rearranging furniture. But, I think it would be a great idea if they let you choose which dashboard you wanted.
People always brag about how the Ps3 has internet capabilities, so what? If you want to go on the internet why don't you use a computer where you have a flipping mouse and keyboard and you can type more than one word per minute. I see really no purpose in putting a browser on a gaming console, its slower, clunkier, and rarely convenient.
I would put a lot of money on Microsoft, Activision and other big companies greed over-weighing their games potential; We will never see any deliberate modding support for consoles.
