Have any of you guys tried this demo/game yet? I think the way you can create terrain on this game has some potential in Forge World. Like creating your own worlds.

For anyone that hasn't played the demo, you basically play as God/Nature. You can gather dirty, water, or lava and more or less create your own landmass by gathering and dumping. It's actually quite a cool concept and could have some utterly ridiculous applications to a Forge World setting on the next Halo game.

Imagine being given a basic island surrounded by water and being able to manipulate and move dirt and water around to completely restructure the layout/look of the island. Then being able to add a few wall pieces to create some structures. It could have a lot of potential.

It's pretty cool how water sources can create their own rivers and deposit dirt/sediment as it keeps expanding. Water also eats away at existing dirt to give it an erosion effect. It's quite ingenious.

Im eventually going to download this game, because it looks freaking awesome. Didn't know you could manipulate dirt, though, I thought you could only move lava and water.

Still, looks awesome, and a terrain manipulation tool for the next Forge would be great. It would make the drabness of the Forerunner structures a thing of the past if you were able to make entire maps out of natural geometry. The freedom that would offer would make Forging a lot more diverse, especially if making our own water channels or waterfalls were implemented. Scenic maps, much?

    I only played the demo.

First map is more or less a basic tutorial. It acquaints you with "the breath" and how to manipulate dirt to create land where there was once water.

Second map was a lot of fun. It's a series of small islands with a couple of totems... and an island with a water spout which is essentially the water source for a river. The way that river kept making dirt deposits and forming water channels was extremely unique. It quite literally expanded the land mass and by the time I was done playing that map... that island doubed in size just from the river sediment. I completely enclosed the island, drained all of the water left in the middle, and made one huge island out of a chain of islands. I poured dirt on top of the water source to stop the water source, then proceeded to create a new channel for the water to follow... then uncovered the water source to watch my new river flow.

The way the water erodes any dirt you place is also pretty cool. It can get annoying at times, but it's what would really happen.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to mess around with lava. I'd have loved to make lava pools and cool them with water to make rock. Extremely innovative game with a lot of potential... especially in a full forge mode.

it would be great to have the ability to edit land in forge but the system they use in that game would be challenging to apply to forge. its either a really advanced terraforming system or they literally have every individual grain of sand that reacts to certian things like water toucing it. thered be too many movable objects to allow very much forging

Third challenge in the demo where you had to prevent the flood was pissing me off.

    TO.
    THE.
    MAX.

Whenever I placed that dirt path as soon as that guy got to it the path was eroded and covered in water, and when I finally had a decent bridge that did not erode, the guy decided to take a dip down the waterfall. I did it correctly the second time but it failed because the man didn't walk fast enough. After 45 minutes of FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- I finally did it correctly..

From Dust is a fun game, but since you dont actually control the people like The Sims, AI sometimes run into pathing issues. In my case, they were quite major.

About your forging idea, the reason it probably won't work is because Forge is not a map creator. It is a map EDITOR. Forge lets you edit maps, not create new ones. Far Cry 2 had a map editor, but a major flaw is that EVERYONE had to download the map, which caused major wait times and overall FUUUUU- ness. If they can find a way to create something like FC2 map editor and not make everyone DL the map, I'd be happy.
