Co-Forge: Samson

    Samson is a new co-forge project between Availablemoth and myself. It is an asymmetrical map designed with FFA in mind, which tries to avoid the route many asymmetrical maps in the past have taken, which often try to mimic the successful layouts of maps such as Lockout and Guardian. Instead, we opted to try and draw inspiration from Cold Storage and it's hectic, but immensely fun FFA, which is a game-type many maps are not particularly designed for. My estimate is that this will play well with 8-12 players, with 10 being the sweet-spot. We'll know soon enough once it's ready for testing :p

    by biggest concern with the hallway you showed is that it feels extremely claustrophobic, plus it kills LoS pretty hard through it because people's heads can cut away from it pretty easily.

    Thanks for the thoughts, sir. We'll see what happens when it's finally ready for testing, but for now I'll offer this explanation:

    That area is very small and is the only part of the map that's claustrophobic whatsoever. The idea is to place a power weapon here and have the RvR be the risk of nade spam or getting trapped. Trying to exit to the left and right in order to escape won't always work because the person pinning you down in there can easily flank on either side.

    Again, this is just what I hope will be the case based on the way the map has been designed thus far.

    EDIT: Put up new pictures to help showcase the map more, so hopefully this helps some of your concerns about the claustrophobic tunnel.

    I like how you used the pyramids buildings as a hallway. Personelly, I love the simple fact you have atleast one long claustrofobic hallway. Prior that this can help give the map some needed variance in gameplay. Imagine somebody scoring a double headshot with the sniper rifle or something in there. And sorry I coudn't find you at all, I bet you're probably using active camo. Anyway, good luck can't wait to see the end result.

    On the left hand side of the hallway..is that your foot? lol

    As for the map, I'm very impressed with the pictures as Dizzyman572 said, I quite like your hallway.

    Maybe you could choose a colour for the pyramid pieces to give the hallway a bit of light? I think that would really set it off.

    I agree with shugz that should put a color in the first pic and that it looks like your foot sticking out on the left

    Don't worry, there will definitely be color in there (and it does look awesome), but I tend to do that last.

    And congrats to Shugz for finding me in the picture haha.

    Looks pretty nice, especially that A frame door thingy. If it turns out to be too narrow or grenade spammy, is there an option to heighten it, or have you used the full glass part of the pyramid? If not you could add a wider ceiling piece to the middle to widen it out a bit and just lose the perfect triangular shape. It's hard to get a sense of scale just from your foot, haha. The rest of the map looks solid as well. I assume you're just using the grid for spacing and will remove it after construction?

    @theslatcher: Haha, I don't think I've ever even heard of the band. Samson was this crazy strong dude in the bible. The map has a very Combat Evolved feel to it, with large and imposing structures and high-ceilings. The map felt very sturdy and powerful, so I thought Samson might be fitting. We'll see if it sticks.

    @Eightball: Someone else already found me :p If you're online, I'll send you an invite. I kind lone-wolfed most of this, so I'm sure availablemoth will be weighing in soon as well.
