Terminus by Wraith2098 Halo Reach Map - YouTube Terminus. This is my latest map for Reach, a symmetrical 8v8 Big Team Battle map. Terminus is set up for Slayer, Capture the Flag, Assault, Territories, King of the Hill, and Stockpile. All game types have been tested several times over the few months of map design and I would say Capture the Flag, Slayer, and Territories are my most recommended. I designed Terminus specifically for the matchmaking Big Team Battle playlist. I know it will likely never be on that playlist, but I play Big Team Battle 90% of the time I'm on the playlists so I wanted to take a shot at making my own Big Team map. I spent a great deal of time getting the map tested and tweaking it in any little way I had to in order to ensure a flawless gameplay with 16 people and I feel I've captured that to the best of my ability. Terminus has several power weapons to choose from as shown below, Other weapons include: Designated Marksmen Rifle - 3 Assault Rifle - 5 Grenade Launcher - 2 Magnum - 6 Rocket Launcher - 1 Shotgun - 2 Sniper Rifle - 2 Mounted Machine Gun - 4 Concussion Rifle - 2 Energy Sword - 1 Fuel Rod Gun - 1 Needle Rifle - 3 Needler - 3 Plasma Pistol - 7 Plasma Repeater - 4 Map pictures, click on spoiler Spoiler There are several routes to take on the center structure. - Teleport from the main bases to the bottom floor. - Walk the top side of the rock tunnel near the cave. - Walk up the rocks on the cliff side. - Take the Man Cannon to the top. - Take the Gravity Latters on either side of the second level to the top. - Walk along the cliff side. - Jetpack! Although it may look like it, this building has no extra advantage for either team. There is little line of sight, no power weapons, and is just as advantages for the red team as it is the blue. You are not able to jetpack onto any area with out a soft kill in the way although there is a special surprise located on this structure... There is a health pack and a few secondary weapons to choose from on either side of the building. There is also a Gravity latter located on the front deck for easy access. The main bases of Terminus are inspired by the basic layout of other Bungie maps. It is a bit of a combination of Hemorrhage and Paradiso. On the bases are a DMR, an Assault Rifle, a Needle Rifle, and a Needler. Heading towards the Falcon you'll see the Sniper Rifle as displayed in the weapons picture. On the Falcon level you will also see a Grenade Launcher and a Plasma Repeater along with two grenades. Inside of the base you will find two Plasma Pistols, two Magnums, a Health Pack, and a handy gravity lift that will take you to the top of the base. The Teleporters are set to asymmetrical so you will not see them showing up on Capture the Flag, Assault, or any other symmetrical gametypes. The cave is a little used area other than an alternative route. However, there is a Sword located in the water area of the cave and there is also a territory in the water area. The cave does come in handy on objective gametypes as people will rarely see you heading that direction. And a few extra action shots for your viewing pleasure... Let me know what you all think of Terminus! All comments, good or bad are welcome. Enjoy!
Woot! First! Oh I love this map. So many times I've tested it! I like the canyon BTB feel with opposite bases involving a centre structure. To me, it reall feels like Hemmorhage done right.
Well said, professor berbenstein. Wraith, this is an extremely well made layout. If this were in the BTB playlist, I would always vote for it and solely it. Btw, what music is in the video? It is quite epic.
Thanks guys haha. And The music would be Martin O'Donnell; Michael Salvatori Part one - Ashes Part two - The Pillar of Autumn
I always enjoyed Terminus, it was great for slayer especially. The flag was a little hard to steal out of each base, but the vehicular combat was very enjoyable and helped infantry to make an attack. Great job man!
Oh boy, this is getting extremely competitive and complicated. I first got a look at Pride last week, I then see a bunch of maps from the END GAME map pack specificing Hellbent, Silverstream, and Divinity. Yesterday I looked at Templum. Now Terminus, I feel small and weak as I compare my small Team Slayer maps. This place is going nuts with competition and talent. This map has kept me topped as I keep looking for good downloads. What has the world come too because the more I look all over the place and I wish these maps were real. They are just blowing me away. Anyway, this map has an awesome layout. Big team Battle for sure, I like the many asthetics and special effects used in this map. The cave; did you use two or just one blue light? The ladders, let me guess, a one way shield. The special effects are quite easy to used but adding them to the map and where they are located make the place almost perfect. Good work on catching the feeling of a Bungie-made canvas. This map takes the word Asthetics to an extreme. Good work!
Thanks Phantom, I'm glad you've noticed my attention to detail haha. The cave has one blue light, I think two lights would have been a bit of a lag problem. You guessed right about the ladders also, one way shields hidden as best I could. I love what Bungie did with Forge World and I want their beautiful landscape to shine past all the forge objects. My goal was to make a map that felt like you were outside and truly fighting for survival in a trapt off canyon. I would kill to see it on the playlists because of how much time I invested in it, but we all know how rare that is, time to go pay some people off haha
Agreed, this map does however seem to fit most of the big team battle and team sniper areas on XBL but I still have a feeling that the map could use some extra preps before going ahead and challenging Bungie and 343 standards! Good work and I sure wish this map had come with more cover around the fields between structures. I know that most Halo Maps don't use the idea of adding cover in the middle of the map like flipped over cars, fallen tree trunks, ruined walls. They are usually used but in real life, this is what guriella warfare is all about. Staying hidden and behind lots of cover to survive in a firefight. Halo doesn't take the point seen in many COD games when fighting you have to becareful for snipers, hide and wait for your opponents to come by and then you wipe their butts with a fast spray of lead into their bodies to kill them. No lone wolf and no standing out in the middle of nowhere and settling down at a makeshift rendevous point. Things of real warfare... This map reminds me of a lot of that with the many buildings, you got a somewhat of cover effective enough to block from sky bombing and tank shells.
No offense to Bungie standards, but some of the current user made maps on the playlists make me cringe haha. Actually cover is the first thing I took care of with Terminus and has been adjusted accordingly over the last couple months of testing. The rock work has been placed very carefully to give you almost constant cover. There are rocks lining the cliff side coming into the main bases that are designed to keep you under cover while trying to infiltrate the enemy base. There are also rocks lining the outside of the map along with the cave and cliff building to give you cover while trying to sneak around. There is the obvious center structure which was originally designed as a line of sight cover between bases that eventually evolved into the center of the gameplay. The teleporters take you to the middle of the map if you want to head straight into action and there are at least seven different ways to the top fighting area. Line of sight is also very minimal by design. Try walking around with a sniper rifle and you'll see there is very little spots to get any clean sniping done. I've also kill zoned any exploitable sniping spots you can jetpack to on Hemorrhage. Taking out the Falcon is actually pretty easy from testing. There are several emp weapons along with a Rocket Launcher to assist you in the process. There is also plenty of sky cover and plenty of opportunity for team shooting the Falcon down. I would have to say I wouldn't want anything else added to the map as I've already come within a few hundred credits of my limit. I don't think any mini bases would be necessary as I've yet to have a problem with cover during play testing. Its really up to the player as to how witty they are and what choices they make. You can't compare Halo maps to COD because the game engine is night and day different. Too much cover and you would never get a kill unless you beat the guy down or got into close range combat.
I have tested Terminus a number of times in varying configurations and multiple times in this final configuration if I am correct, and its been a blast to play and see it form into what it is today. I am of course a little bummed that i'm not in the video, but of course it was the one game I missed that night. I have to say, I didn't realize their was a fuel rod on the map as your picture shows, but then again where it's positioned isn't the type of area I typically head into. Terminus strikes a nice balance between vehicular and infantry combat, the falcons can be a very useful and powerful weapon, but there are multiple ways to bring them down. The vehicles are fun to drive on Terminus as there is plenty of room to maneuver, but still enough cover where the infantry aren't sitting ducks. The center is a natural choke point for vehicles, and can be a bit cramped driving through at times, but I think thats a good thing as it divides the two sides nicely. The central structure has always felt a bit clustered to me, but then again it caters to more CQB types than myself, and is a good change of pace for the more open map. The map is in the canyon, and even utilizes the hemorrhage style bases although with a few additions. The central structure, weapon and vehicle choices though make it so the map plays very differently, and that's a good thing. I have really enjoyed testing Terminus and I look forward to playing it more in the future, if your goal is indeed to one day get into into mm, good luck, I think it plays better than many that are currently in btb. You've got a good map on your hands and i'm glad to see it posted, invite me any time to play it as i'd love to get more games on it.
Thank you good Duck sir. I appreciate all the feedback, from everybody! You were actually one of the first people to test Terminus in its infant build and you stuck around until the last test along with many other big team testers. I'm very appreciative of that and it made a world of difference in the maps creation. I can't even count how many different vehicle and weapons variations I tested on this map and go figure the simple Warthog Falcon combo ended up being the winner. Sometimes less is more I guess haha. I intentionally made the center a 'choke point' for vehicles specifically to give mobile infantry a chance to get around the map and avoid getting ruined by an unrestricted Warthog. There are three routes and the tunnel not including the tight route through the center structure and the bridge route over the cliff side. Yep, clustered is probably a good word to describe the center haha. There is a lot of cover to aid in that cqc environment and three levels to combat on so if you learn the routes you can be a quite deadly killer in the center. If you're like Duck though, you can always chill on the outskirts and DMR/Snipe people as they present themselves. I'm glad you've enjoyed it and hopefully that goes for others as well. Thanks again for the testing, Duck and everyone else who participated in the process of Terminus. Thanks guy!
Just a heads up, I recut the video and uploaded the new version. Check it out if you get a chance, because you know you want to ;-) Terminus Forge Map by Wraith2098 - YouTube
Ok Wraith, your buddy Phantom is back now about this map I really love it but I now notice that you don't seem to utilize map rocks in the map, I though if you haven't used them all up yet to make the colluiesuem walls more naturally surrounded to not make them feel like a box and something out of a stone wall of a castle as your map does make me feel like that. Anyway about your video at the begining of the song, it had a lot of strange singing and I thought you would probably choose a more loud and exciement of a song to get people's attention. The song is kind of makes more sad, try Halo Reach - Lone Wolf. It actually is a pretty good theme. Another point is the video showed some lag from the players when I saw one attempt to use evade and he was bounced between where he started adn where he was attempting to go through seizures and figets. Next time try to leave out the troublesome parts and put the best records of the map in the video. It makes it look better, good work. I would defienetily like to see this reach MM, oh ya have you seen the new halo reach title update, its really hard but really fun at the same time. I lost but got most the points on the team compared to some Brigader. Again good map and good luck.
