Alright so for the last few weeks I have been thinking and trying to make a good map. However I find that I am unable to do so. This is happening because either 1-The map I do make is always dull, incomplete, or has another flaw 2- I have no idea whatsoever as to what map to make 3- When I do get a map idea, it is too complex to be made in on forge So I got to thinking, what inspires people? How do they think of and make these good maps with what little forging offers? And why can I not do so too? I am a creative person(a many have told me) and I have a burning desire to create thr best maps ever. I have "big picture" ideas for maps, like statues, incredible bases(I can't give an example because there is no word for what I have in mind), castles, boats, planes, courtyards, towers, and bunkers to name a few. If anyone has any way they inspire themselves to make a map, or knows a way to get inspired, I would greatly appreciate you sharing it with me. This thread is the most creative map I have made in a while(text color). So can anyone please help?!
Sounds like you are trying to accomplish in Forge a task that must be done in the official map creating process Bungie uses. Try not to focus on the castles, boats, planes, etc. If you want to use something complex like that, great, but you have already lost. Objects like those in forge usually look terrible, and the good ones requite 90% if not more budget, so there you just have an aesthetic map. Which are cool, but serve no gameplay functionality... obviously... I have run into a rut recently and had to look at older maps such as Guardian to break out of that, but first it sounds like you must realize many of these most interesting things are impossible to create a working map with. But use the downed pelican in Tempest, a tree, water, or rocks to mix up the textures. Once you see what you can do in the Forge, you need to get inspiration, then put all your ideas together. Hope this has helped.
If you think a map is dull, more often then not it's not, you've just spent so much time on the map that you think it's dull. Don't pass it off as dull until you get a game or two on it. As for the maps, some people make an area to fight in that would be interesting, and then draw up a quick sketch on paper until you're happy with the general layout. Then it's time to build it in Forge.
one of the issues i find is that after I work on one of my maps long enough it begins to look dull, but others don't think so when they first play on it. And some maps get to that point faster than others.
That. I detest, loathe, and hate beyond all measure the one map I have published, but nearly all of the people I have played it with, love it. Don't trust yourself. Trust others. It's only dull if everyone else thinks it is.
I know your problem and have run into it many times. Try not to map everything out ahead of time but rather focus on one central idea for a map. Build around that and let your creativity flow as you construct it. This way when you see at what rate the budget is depleting itself you can judge the size and detail that the map will take on. Often you will even improve on the original idea you had. Currently I am working with Darth Human on his youtube channel The Halo Forge Epidemic. We have just started to do forge tutorials and I am in the process of producing a whole series of videos meant for people like you. They basically give you an idea to build off of and show you how to make interesting settings. We are part way through releasing a "how to build an invasion map" tutorial video series which should come in handy "Invasion Forging Part 1" [HD] - Forge Tips & Tricks (THFE) - YouTube Examples of videos to come later: 1. building a battleship 2. building an urban setting 3. building outdoor details 4. building a beach resort 5. building aesthetic guns 6. building air vehicles 7. building land vehicles 8. building basic structures 9. building military structures 10...
Browse other maps, see what works, what you'd change, and put them together in your own style. Also, TC, this is unrelated, but you might want to change that font color. Nearly impossible to read it as blue >_>
