Sanctum(Sanctuary) Recommend the map/thumbs it up if you like it. As some of you may know, I have been hard at work organizing the community effort for the Team Classic playlist. We have come a long way since February and now have the gametypes and maps that we have been playing for months finally in matchmaking. When we started out we needed to have some remakes to play on and the ones that Bungie gave us in forge world were all very poorly done. I was determined to provide justice to the original creations. This map started out as being heavily based on Mac xL's version but offered more classic weapon set and more accurate rock arrangement. It was good enough to enjoy in customs but I always felt that it could be better. Simply through word of mouth the map reached 250 downloads. I took a long break from working on this map and came back once I had much more experience because I was never happy with it. The original had some framerate drops in very specific LoS and only under a lot of action. Not only that but it also was very choppy during split screen play. After adopting some new techniques and seeing what others have done in their Sanctuary remakes I have found a way to build the map as efficiently as possible while still retaining all of the aesthetics that are necessary to make the map enjoyable. This map supports all major gametypes as well as 4 teams. This map has DYNAMIC SPAWNS for Slayer. I felt that this was necessary to retain the Classic experience as well as making the map more enjoyable in general. Spawn traps are still possible but must have much better positioning in order not to disrupt it. People forget that in Halo 2 the spawns were always dynamic is Slayer, especially the initial spawns and yet the maps played flawlessly. This had a lot to do with the spawn system being much better but it works out well in Reach; you always spawn furthest from the enemy or from the action. Sure sometimes you'll spawn near an enemy sniper if he's not doing much but thats his fault for being out on his own on the empty part of the map, it was to be expected. You may have a gripe with the Dynamic Spawns but its fine the way it is just watch the video below. It has been unusual seeing the maps bungie made in halo reach, but I understand now that they were remakes from halo maps. I only found out recently and have been playing remakes of this map. Very difficult for me to compare to original as I have never played, but this does look very simmilar to the reach version.
I gotta say, this remake definitely reminds me alot more of Sanctuary than Asylum does. There definitely seems to be alot more cover around (which my brother would finally be happy about, he absolutely HATES asylum, even having not playing h2 matchmaking) and I can sincerely say I am soooo glad to see those columns in the center back. I had almost forgot about them, they definitely help to make fights in the center more interesting. I don't really have an opinion on the weapon set, but it's still really similar so I don't think it makes too much of a difference. Overall, it's better than Asylum, without a doubt, but I would have to play on it to see if I enjoy it. Sanctuary never was my favorite map, and I don't think your remake will convince me otherwise, but maybe it'll make me think that it's a playable map once again.
The map seems a little too claustraphobic compared to the original map. I dont know how you could fix it without having to re-due it alot. That just my opinion
This remake is definitely more accurate then the one that Bungie incorporated into the game. The pillars in the center, and the inability to see from sniper spawn to sniper spawn is perfect, Bungie's version failed to properly attribute that to their make. I haven't tested this out with a group bigger then 2, but me and my buddy ran around on it and very much liked it. I am ALWAYS playing classic. If you take a look at my service record you'll notice that 99.9% of all my games have been played in classic. Halo 2 was probably the best FPS multiplayer action I have ever had. I'd love more accurate remakes, and more of them in the classic playlist..
Having the thicker, raised carbine bridges is a little thing that makes a big difference. This is by far the best Sanctuary remake I have ever played on.
Believe it or not I raised it quite a bit since last you saw. Now it completely blocks the LoS from Sniper to Healthpack just as it did in Halo 2. I also raised all the jumps a bit Yeah, even more than last time... Download and recommend the new version!
The tunnels under the Sniper Spawn should be Tunnel, Shorts. Great remake though. You should've used Classic Slayer instead of ordinary Slayer in your vids.
Tunnel shorts would use up more items and introduce concern for screen lag. Less pieces the better. This map currently supports up to 3 player split screen without lag.
In halo 2, tunnel shorts are more similar than the Tunnel, Longs. I don't understand why it would create more lag.
Every change to increase the accuracy of your remake is important. What if the eiffel tower had 3 normal legs and 1 leg painted green. They wouldn't just say,"Its not important, just leave it."
Something that forgehub doesn't understand. -Gameplay>>>Aesthetics -2 player split screen framerate There is a reason you only see a small handful of maps in matchmaking. They not only have to play very well but they have to perform perfectly for at least 2 players in split screen. I'd much rather not sacrifice the framerate performance of the map strictly for an aesthetic reason that has a miniscule effect on gameplay.
that area is used very often as it houses a shotgun. You can't call it an accurate remake if you haven't even tried to change the map for the better. And you only see a small handful of community maps in MM because it takes 4 months of preperations before it is actually put in MM. Besides since when does good gameplay mean that your map looks clean and good. In a remake, aesthetics refer to the visual accuracy to the map you are remaking. In general, Aesthetics refer to if your map looks good. Framerate has nothing to do with it. Why don't you at least try it and tell me if there is any major framerate lag. Im not trying to say anything bad about your map. I actually think that this is a good idea but im just suggesting that you use more accurate pieces.
It's more like if the Eiffel tower had a really small green spot on one of the legs. The long tunnel piece allows for exactly the same function and shape as the short ones would, and it also makes the object density lower. It would be a pointless change. It even looks better the way it is.
