What happened to the days of 5-star ratings? I remember in Halo 3 it was much easier to find a good map because everyone rated them based on the 5-star system. I wish that was as popular in Reach as it was in Halo 3, because browsing through endless pages of maps without knowing how good they are is horrid.
I love this idea for Reach! Why would they ever do away with that system? Rating maps via the community by stars seems like a no brainer way to find the cream of the crop.
I agree too. I end up DL a bunch of maps just to check them out. I wind up deleting most of them because the gameplay is terrible. I try to research the maps thread before hand to see what others have said but a stared ranking system would be much better.
The rating system still exists. I have no idea why you expect people to use it in reach when people rarely if ever did in halo 3
the only people using the rating system are people who get all their little baby friends to click 5 stars for them. the ratings are not accurate, and that is why no one uses them.
Eh. It is too biased; everyone just bribes people in any form possible to 5 star their map and little butthurt kids would rate maps as "bad" when they get mad at the author. Not a very good system for determining the most popular maps.
I dont know about you guys, but I know a map is good whens its been tagged "author rams babies," "author rams donuts," or "author rams rams". Its indicative of the care they take to create a highly detailed map, because they "ram" things.
Well, nowadays you see "My Favorite File" more often than not, so clearly the majority of maps are pretty good.
God, if only everyone took everything for face value. Imagine the chaos! I would revel in it. *evil finger pyramid of contemplation* Sorry, spam. Tagging is good and bad, in my opinion. In some cases it does help to find files that you are looking for, but its also a dumping ground for peoples stupid comments, ala, my previous post. Theres no way to moderate them all, unfortunately, so the cycle will continue. A simpler system, such as the stars, would make it better, but like several people have already stated the authors would get their "baby friends" to keep bumping their maps, and the system would become redundant. Seems like the only way to get your map noticed properly these days is by word of mouth on places like Forge Hub.
Idiots will always abuse a system. There were maps in Halo 3 which were "Rate 5 stars, get teh reconzz" and that's the way it is in every game. There's nothing you can really do about it.
we're talking about a "like" system that may or may not be implemented after throwdown. This will essentially expand upon the 5* system but remove the flaws such as friends just rating 5*s or people arguing giving it 1* for pointless reasons. Members who click the "like" button is just essentially you placing your name in a box below the map post saying you enjoyed the map. This system is ideally there to prevent people from spam posting things like "Cool map, I liked this" etc... so instead you'd click the button to state you liked it without ever needing to expand on the reasons why you did. This would also become a factor in searching and it could possibly be expanded upon with the new wordpress front page.
I never really download maps on Halo Reach itself anymore, unless I recognise the creator's gamertag or it's on a friend's fileshare. Seeing the map on Forgehub at least gives me an idea how good it is. I also generally look for maps off Forge World and Tempest and...well, the majority of Reach's players are pathetic at forging on those maps... A star system would have made it much easier to see what's good and what's bad, but I still probably wouldn't rely on it too much. Seeing the map itself is the best way to tell if it'll be good or not.
I like that idea, especially considering that it would also be implemented as a search factor. I presume it would apply solely to maps and not things like front page articles or other threads?
