Let's backtrack to about two weeks before Halo: Reach came out. Halo 3 was on its way out and we ushered in a new era of Halo madness and creating any new Forge map at the point and expecting anything to come out of it seemed relatively pointless. Still though, I decided to have one last go at it, and for my Halo 3 forging swan song I pulled a section of a level directly out of a game I'm designing myself. Thus, the map Touch of Red was born. So, granted my timing may have been a little off, but I personally never felt the map got what it deserved. What comments I had on the map (besides interlox -.-) were praise and it grossed out more successfully in two weeks than my entire six part infection series did in the same time frame. Simply put, people liked it. The people who played it anyway. So now, Reach rolls around and that's all hunkie dorie as we all familiarize ourselves with a brand new forging system and about the second day of forging I say to myself, "By god, Touch of Red would be easy as hell to remake here." So the idea came to me very early on. Then a couple of friends requested that I make it but by then I was immersed in the capabilities of forging Invasion so going back to my roots with Infection seemed like a step backwards. Now then, fast forward to about a week ago. I get a Private message from one of our resident TG birds, Confused Flamingo entitled "Zombies That Steal". Now, I recognized the subject from somewhere and I just could not put my finger on it. Then I opened the message and it was a random request to remake Touch of Red in Reach again. But this request was a little different. It emphasized something about the map that I never thought about when planning a remake and that was the gametypes that went with the map. The subject title "Zombies that Steal" suddenly correlated in my head as the premiere gametype I released with the map called Haze Wave (another subtle reference to my own game) which featured shield vampirism for the zombies. The other game was called Last Man Alive, which is pretty self-explanatory. CF explained to me how these two gametypes complimented the map and the two together made something amazing. That alone gave me the drive to actually make this happen, and happening it is. Now, short of a few additions and revisions, the Reach renditions is nearly ready for testing. Touch of Blue, as I've deemed it, Features all of the same major geometry present on the predecessor, and with some fervent working on the infection gametypes, I'm hoping to make a new set of gametypes to go with the map that are as iconic to Touch of Blue as Haze Wave was to Touch of Red. Anyway, my long introductory piece is done. So here are some pictures of the old versus the new. VS. The Ruined Building The Now, Not So Ruined Building The Street Blocked Off Due to Construction The Street Blocked Off Due to Futuristic Awesomeness No Thru Traffic Actually Looks Like A ****ing Street Now Well there you go. A small taste of what is to come in the coming weeks. With the perfection of a new gametype, expect to see this popping up in the Tester's Guild very soon. Last Man Alive will be making a triumphant return, but thanks to shield vampirism having been omitted from Reach, Haze Wave will have to take another form. Until then, Organite out. Coming Soon
This does look pretty nice, though I'd suggest altering some of those ramps. It works for remake purposes, but the practicality of a ramp so thin and steep is pretty low. Anyway, I presume this is a free-roam infection map? If so it may well be able to be set up for multiple gametypes. I'd also be happy to test this, and provide some semi-thorough feedback if you're interested.
Oh, man. I completely regret not staying up to date with this endeavor. You just about finished it already! As far as Haze Wave goes, I do wonder what new flare you ended up deciding to go with. Also, when I visualize the post for Touch of Red in Halo 3, I think of the phrase "Swan Song." By mentioning it here, you've just sent me careening into waves of nostalgia.
Said endeavor is nearly done. I just have a few kinks to work out with the design and new gametype and it shall make its debut in the TG. I'd kindly request that yourself or Brox do it :]
If you need more testers, I want in; this looks smexy. I haven't played it's Halo 3 counterpart, I'm gonna play this one. And don't forget to send it to the Review Hub when you finish!
Oh yes. Send it to the Review Hub. Where it would be a possibility to receive an unbiased score for the Review Hub Leader's map lol
