Remake Disposable City (District)

    Hello Forgehub. Its been a while since I've been here. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be staying long.

    I lost interest in Halo about 3 months ago, and due to my sporadic style of forging, ended up with about 6 half tested maps on my harddrive. A couple days ago, I logged back on. After getting about one game on each of the finished maps, I decided I would post them before I lost interest again. I'm not going to post all of them in one sitting, so here is my district remake.

    I'll admit it. The forging on this map could be better. Some of the railings are a little off, and many of the walls are not smooth on top. But I had to be extremely practical here. The original version lagged like hell, so I had to cut as many items as possible, which left the aesthetics a little less than ideal, and the death barriers a little sudden. However, the lag is mostly gone, and the map seems to play fairly well from the testing that I've done.

    Ok it took me a while to realize this is a halo 2 vista map. I was thinking about remaking the little area from the beginning of the second mission of halo 2. I personally have never played on vista but this is one of the few maps I've seen. It looks very nice. As you said the aesthetics arent all there but that's because it's such a big map. Good work. I'd like to see more vista remakes.

    Excellent, I have been looking for a remake of this, after looking it up I felt left out. I love BTB infantry/ vehicle maps, so I have been looking for remakes of those I never played. I am sure this is fine, making a BTB map within the constraints is always difficult. One question- do the cars still blow up? :)

    Man I loved District from H2PC! It was a good combination of light vehicles and foot traffic. I always thought it might play well in Reach, and I even thought about remaking it myself, so I hope your remake is spot-on! I'm not too sad hearing that you had to drop some aesthetic pieces to make the framerate better, I feel the gameplay is most important anyways. Like the water in the sewage ditch. Will definitely dl and check out.

    Awesome map! the only thing I have to say is more aesthetics. There is not enough detail.

    I would agree that there could be more detail, if the map's budget wasn't already almost used up, and if the framerate weren't already a little slow by the edges. Otherwise, yeah there could be more stuffs around, though I'm not quite sure of how dedicated this remake is to the original. While the weapon set seems close, I'm don't quite remember some of the power weapon placements being the same in this. I'm pretty sure I remember different sniper and rocket launcher spawns, but I can't say about smaller weapons, though the vehicles are about right. And I don't remember being able to climb on top of some of the buildings in the center where the focus rifle is, but I can't say I spent enough time on the map to know that. It still works pretty well, and Reach's jetpacks would give that area even more depth.
    And there are alot of kill zones placed, but no safe volumes, seems like alot of those kill zones would be unnecessary if there was a safe zone or two. Overall, I feel the map could use some further editing to make it even better, but it's still a pretty good map as is.

    District remake! :D Anyways, I loved this map in Halo 2, and it looks like it's been faithfully recreated in Reach. The aesthetics are good and simple, and the map really seems to capture the feel of District. Great job!
