As he said above, but I see a lot of power weapons, most being Long-range mixed with short, I think that could use some work.

    Forsaken

Forsaken provides an enjoyable team and free-for-all experience. The map is more geared towards slayer matches, and it is definitely true that slayer provides a more enjoyable experience. The map encourages a flow, as players find themselves using most parts of the map frequently. No spot seems to hold a dominating position on the map and different areas of the map are suited to different combat styles. For example, players with the sword may stick to the building and lower areas. However, the sniper present on Forsaken offers little to anything but a trained close quarters sniper, as the only real long line of sight is across the top middle portion of the map. Snipers are then encouraged to camp the top of each base, slowing down gameplay. Not only does the top of each base prove to be a nest for the sniper, but they each offer only one means of entrance, a man-cannon. While the top of each base is not big or dominating, it still is a hard position to besiege if it is well defended and can cause trouble in objective games.

The only area not often traversed by most players on Forsaken was the shotgun spawn area. Few players find the shotgun at all during matches as the area is hidden in a corner of the map and offers little traffic or a defensible position. Anyone who does decide to grab this close quarters weapon must leave the area either with a loud entrance to the open top mid via man-cannon or climb a staircase to red base. As the shotgun’s position offers little escape few people chose to use this area of the map, so most firefights occur on the other side of the map.

Team games on Forsaken usually depend on control of the sniper spawn. Due to its covered access to both bases and teleporter to the high ground of the main building as well as the sniper it houses, this route becomes the main focus of the match. Other areas such as the building itself and the sword in the middle are fought for as well, but a team holding the sniper spawn can effortlessly control the building and hold the middle of the map. Intense battles ensue in these contested areas as they offer nice amounts of cover and fluidity, leaving the combat entertaining despite its focus on two areas of the map. Free-for-all matches tend to revolve around the top building or the top of the bases, as the locations provide both the necessary cover and height advantage needed to locate and kill as many opponents as possible. This is less enjoyable, as players constantly run to one of these points, occasionally stopping to pick up a power weapon, leaving the combat straightforward and repetitive.

Overall, Forsaken offers solid and enjoyable small-sided gameplay for slayer matches. It supports regular teams of four, and still manages to provide a great experience, but still remains best suited for doubles matches. Players are stimulated to move and control key points on the map, yet the map remains fun for both teams as the locations are not overpowered while still keeping the gameplay in focus. The map seems to be the most enjoyable in small-sided team games, where it excels at providing tactical and entertaining gameplay.

Forsaken is an asymmetric map, yet many elements remain the same on both sides of the map. Both teams have identical bases and have access to the neutral sniper and grenade launcher in close to the same amount of time. A sword leans slightly towards blue team, and a shotgun leans slightly toward red team. This would seem fair, as both weapons that are slightly biased towards a team are both close-quarters weapons. Unfortunately, red is still slightly disadvantaged. The shotgun lies in a desolate area with only two means of escape. While the sword closer to the blue team offers a covered approach to the middle while the shotgun, as mentioned before, requires a man-cannon to drift down into the middle area. This is a slight disadvantage, but the red team can still put up a fight to grab the sword with much more success than a similar attack by the blue team on the shotgun spawn would have, offering a sort of compensation.

The top areas of each base can be easily camped, as players in the middle could be impervious to most attacks, and from this location the sole man-cannon entrance can be easily guarded. Red team is yet again at a slight disadvantage as the main building offers a line of sight from the grenade launcher it houses to the top of the red base, while the view to blue base is only present on the stairs from blue to the building, and still part of the base is obstructed from view. This offers blue team more cover from the main building.

Blue team is given slight advantages in respect to both weapon placement and cover placement. In both areas the difference is very small, but still, the blue team’s advantages can add up and offer a coordinated blue team an easier shot at victory in a competitive game. Besides these two issues, Forsaken offers mostly balanced gameplay and very intense matches.

Forsaken, is an open map, and as such has potential for skyward escapes from play. These attempts are blocked for the most part by soft kill boundaries, but certain areas can be used by players seeking temporary refuge. For example, a jetpack equipped player can fly to the strut on the wall at blue side, or behind the broken bridge to hide from gunfire and let their shields recover in cover areas of the soft kill volumes, while returning to play safely before the timer reaches zero. Neither of these locations is game-breaking, and technically the map still cannot be escaped. This issue appears to be resolved in the best available manner, but still leaves a bit to be desired.

An issue encountered in limited areas of Forsaken is the presence of frame-rate lapses. Players looking from red base to blue base across the middle, as well as from blue base to red are met with a slight lapse in frame-rate. The problem disappears as players approach the middle or look away, but the area where it is present is a key area, a cross-map line of sight from the red base to blue. This area is traversed frequently and the issue is only made worse when more players are present. Aside from this, Forsaken appears to have no breaks or other issues of the sort.

Forsaken goes beyond most maps and adds details to make the map seem more unique. The rocks in the water where Forsaken was built is not a spot used by most forgers, and the map uses the rock it is bordered by nicely to create the appearance of a broken bridge. Not only that, but the bridge can be seen leading to a helipad behind the rock, a detail only noticeable by those who pay attention. A crashed Falcon is also able to be seen, and piecing these details together a player can infer the Falcon crashed on route to or from Forsaken, leading players to create a story for the map.

Some areas could be improved upon, such as players may not being able to orient themselves leaving the middle of the map easily, as issue that could be fixed by coloring more objects around each team’s base the color of that team. All of the colored pieces also do not keep their color in free-for-all matches due to the object color being dependant on teams. If object color was assigned without being team specific, players may have an easier time navigating the map. This is only a slight issue however, and the great atmosphere and story behind Forsaken helps make up for it.

Aside from steps to make the map stand out visually, Forsaken does little to break the mold of competitive maps. The layout is a standard two bases with a teleporter in the middle, and the map offers no unique features that others maps do not often have. Nevertheless, a map of this type is difficult to differentiate and the aesthetic does give it a story, which is unlike most maps. In any other respect however, Forsaken contains all the standard layout features of a small-sided competitive map.
