Mental Blocks: Starting OutThis always happens to me: I start out with an incredible idea (self-acclaimed), right? Then I start brainstorming how to go about it. I get this masterminded idea going about how awesome this map will be. Then BAM! I go to Forge and try forging it. Guess what happens? A lackluster starting point happens. I get brain-stomped on ideas and ways to build my vision and then eventually give up. It's a vicious cycle that I can't break. Anyone willing to provide help? It would be greatly appreciated.
I know what you mean, although for it doesn't happen all the time for me. Ill think up and idea and be like all hyped and get to forge and just give up. I can't honestly say how I avoid this because Im not sure what it is thats spurs me to build a map. I thinks its possibly the thought of knowing this could be really awesome and everyone ends up loving it maybe? I dunno.
If I have a primary concept or feature I want to start a map with, I just start putting pieces down loosely to see if it's even feasible to construct. When I manage to make the idea practical and playable, I'll start placing the objects snugly and accurately together. Then I just build the rest of the map off of that particular feature, making things work as necessary. Really, there's always a way to pull off a design you want, it's just a matter of how elegant or poor you're willing to let it look.
