Cladite Created by a Polish Korean Recommended Gametypes: MLG TS, MLG CTF (5 Flag), MLG Bomb (Sanctuary Bomb), MLG Team King, MLG Oddball Recommended Players: 6-8 Released with the second half of the Mythic Map Pack, Citadel was actually featured on the MLG main stage in a hands on preview during the Dallas 2009 event, but unlike its map pack brethren Heretic, it never made it as far as the Pro Circuit map compliment. Whilst it may not be a remake of one of the most celebrated MLG maps of all time, that doesn't mean it escaped the attention of those with a mind for competitive Halo and a keen eye for map design. aPK's Spiritual Successor to this often overlooked Halo 3 arena removes the long sweeping lines of sight and focus on end to end action, matching a redesign of the layout with a distinct absence of the two Snipers which often perpetuated this standoffish gameplay. This overhaul is achieved by compacting the map from end to end, thus altering the layout of the bases to give them more physical depth and open up their lines of sight, along with a new approach to the role that bottom middle plays in the design. The Shotgun tunnels are gone in favour of another access ramp to bottom base, and a drop down from top plat, as well as a lift being added underneath each base. This adaption of the Citadel base design moves away from the thin gauntlets of the Overshield tunnels, fleshing out the bases in a way which gives a nod towards a more universally accepted MLG precedent, the aforementioned Legendary Map Pack companion, Heretic. However, the easy base-to-base route offered by top middle in Citadel remains, and whilst the Snipers and Overshields may be gone, the dominant force of Rockets still reside on his key route and power position, joined by a Camo located bottom middle. Whilst Cladite comfortably caters to all the above gametypes, we recommend the Team King variant if you really want to see it shine. This looks awesome bro. I never even saw it, but I am DLin it now. Sweet. Gratz on the feature Polish.
Grats on the feature, I've only heard great things about this map. Now time to download it and check it out.
Those three images do not do this map justice. When I first clicked this new featured map I was hardly impressed as it looked like every other map on forgeworld. I then viewed the original thread and then I could see why this got featured. 'Grats to *checks top of page* A Polish Korean.
Nothing ever really wow'd me about this one. I love you Polish, but I didn't enjoy this one as much as others did. Congratulations though.
I like the use of rocks in the bases, it makes orientation easy: if you see a rock, you are going towards a base. The layout seems pretty good, great job on the feature, I saw this in the FHF voting as well.
I knew when I saw this map that it was going to get featured. It really is an excellent design, and it's also a beauty. Well done, Polish Korean, well done.
Thanks for the feedback, guys. To explain my mentality to picking those images, I tend towards a somewhat utilitarian approach in that I choose those which best demonstrate layout, in this case wanting to show the most important deviations from the Citadel design. In retrospect, however, this doesn't fulfil the most important part of a feature thread: selling the map with a wow factor, so point taken. I must say though, as I mentioned to SoS, I'm weirdly drawn to very plain, clean lines in an aesthetic sense, like those shown with the bottom base pic. I guess I'm a bit odd like that. I've swapped out the bottom base picture for one showing the main base flat, undeniably one of the more distinctive parts of the map as FlyingshoeILR says, very clean use of rocks there by aPK. Does this look better to you guys?
I'd say the pictures looked fine. A map shouldn't have to be completely unique visually to be deemed good. I actually find that rock area unsightly in the new pic.
Truly a good map, and perfectly deserving of a feature, though the design never really "Wow'd" me. It's functional, it's fun, it's solid. Gratzi, Polish.
You have screenshots of an older version. The natural pieces are gone from the bases in the new version, being replaced by blocks. This has to be my most tested map so far. I've had at least 30 testing sessions on this post-release, but never had the chance to play it pre-release. This may be aPK's worst map IMO, but it's still amazing and worth a download. This feature was deserved. Edit - Nevermind that worst map part. I forgot about Sierra, another map of his which played just a bit less well than Cladite did.
The new version is so much better than this one its unreal. This map has an excellent design, the aesthetics were originally holding this map back, but the new version is a must. Please update the pics so i can forget how bad this map use to be.
I didn't notice any major changes. Was it that intense? I thought it played very well either way. Also, Haze for next feature.
The pics are accurate to the version linked in aPK's thread over here. If he updates his FH thread, I'll update the download link and images accordingly, but I don't wanted the linked and referenced version to be different from the one actually posted on Forge Hub since its counter intuitive. EDIT: I just went and checked his fileshare, the version using the rocks for the bases is the only one there. If he's made a new version then fair enough, but until he uploads it to his fileshare and updates the FH thread, you should be talking to him and not me. Also I've just checked and this version is the same as the one on his MLG thread, both in terms of pictures and DL link.
I knew that this would win a feature. I saw it a long time ago and didn't DL, which is a mistake. So DLin' now. Congrats!
Thanks everyone for the overwhelming support. I really appreciate it. Huge thanks goes out to Bretamaled, Solo XIII, and Blood Gulch for all the support. Huge ups to ForgeHub too for the feature! @Pegasi New version is in my fileshare and the download link has been updated in the thread.
Up quark, one of the building blocks of Protons and Neutrons. Sheesh, Cade, get with the program. And thanks, aPK, will update now. If you get some pictures of the newer version at any point, let me know and I'll update this thread with them. If not I'll jump in to theatre at some point this week and grab some myself. Gratz btw. EDIT: Pictures updated to the newest version, thanks aPK.
