Yes, you read that right. MW4 Mercs is free to play. Free download and 19 dedicated servers (or something around that number) I played tonight and their were 117 people on 19 different servers. The catch (of course there's a catch silly): It's a ***** and half to get it to work right. It took me the span of three days to get the torrent downloaded, installed (correctly mind you) and debugged. However, there is a lot of support on the website (which I will link in a minute) to help you through the inhumanely frustrating process of getting this bad-ass game to work right. Not only is it an up to date game, it's been balanced and has many, many more mechs added to it. Including Battle Armors and Infantry, and a whole slew of new light, medium and assault mechs. The website is: MekTek If you need help installing the game and you can't get it from their forums, post here for help. I'll check back on this regularly. I'm sure some of you knew about this site already, but I figured I'd post my find anyway. Happy hunting. Hopefully I'll see you on the battlefield.
I bought the game a few years back. I'm also super excited that FASA is partnering with Bungie on Bungie Aerospace. I'm really hoping to see more MechWarrior games.
ok, so i downloaded the MTX Client. But it says entering offline mode. And nothing shows up for downloadable games. Any idea's on what I do?
Yes, I can walk you through this. Do exactly as I say or your family will perish miserably in the bowels of some great beast. 1. On This page scroll down until you read: "Version .0028 is the latest full installer. If you are installing from scratch the above files are all that you need. If you are patching from a version older then .0028 the files are below. Once you are updated to version .0028 the rest of the updates are above." It will be in between two lines of red asterisks. Download the one just above that, it's a torrent, you'll need bittorrent or utorrent or something like that. It's the full install of the game. It's 1.84 gigs. 2. Download all of the 'winpatches above that and all of the 'exe' files. (The one's that say: Does not require the MTX client or MTX extractor) 3. Once you have used Bittorrent to download the first file, open MTX and it will put you in offline mode. At this point YOU MUST DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET. No joke. Unplug your computer from the wall, shut off your router, flip that annoying little switch on your laptop, however you do it, just make sure you are not connected to the internet. 4. Go to open file in the MTX launcher and select that first file (the full install, .028, the 1.84 gig one.) and open it. Saving it to where you want your game files. 5. Once that has completed, then go to where you downloaded the other patches and run all 4 of those IN ORDER! (you don't need to use MTX, just click them and they will go on their merry way.) e.g. .0028-.0029, .0029-.0030, .0030-.003a, .003a-.003c. The order is also from bottom up on that page I directed you to earlier. 6. Voila, you should be good to go. If you get an error when running the game at any point, post your error here and I will likely be able to tell you what the problem is, if not I can direct you to somewhere that knows how to solve it. If you have any questions just post them here. Also, if your antivirus software tells you there's a trojan/backdoor virus in the MTX files, it's not a virus. Promise. This link is basically what I said only lengthier. ^However the numbers for the downloads are outdated. You are using .0028 to .003c
Ok the game works but when i try to connect to servers they are ALL green. So they have a newer version. MTX client says I have version- 51.03.01.0028 ok now when i open it, it says- STOP: This isn't a data base.
I'd play, but I'm annoyed with all the storefronts I have to download to play games now a days. I'm sticking with steam and that's it.
Find your game files and run the program in there called md5sum.exe copy paste the results here so I can see them. To me this sounds like your patches didn't install correctly. You need to have selected the entire MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries folder when you ran the patches.
