Refinery is unique in that it's complexity was formed based on simplicity. What this means is that usually a map comes from scratch, thus making every decision complex as it comes from a blank canvas. With Refinery, the base canvas was actually a small section of Boneyard. It's unique in it's look and overall official style, even the map has area call outs. Aside from it's unique non-forge look, in order to be successful the map has to meet competitive standards. It ends up meeting them incredibly well, to the point many have asked the question after playing it, "Why didn't Bungie do this?" I'm not sure why, but it made for a single unique and incredibly fun map.

Boot it up and ask for yourself, "Why wasn't this done?" Then just enjoy!

Please view the video below for a walkthrough and understanding of the map:

allways thought that was a good fighting environment. great job focusing on that part of the map and keeping a balanced fighting space.

the shield doors are a great idea instead of using standard crates.

Um, I don't really know a nice way to put this, but here it goes...I don't think that this is creative or in any way to be called a forge map. I'm not trying to be mean, or an asshole or flame or troll or WHATEVER you want to call it. All of your other maps were forged by YOU and that is what I like to see from forgers. Your other maps look so nice and probably play so well, but looking at this makes me think you're lazy. I know you're probably not, so lets see more of your creativity and unique style and go forge maps made by YOU.

Sorry if I come off as rude, it was not my intention. Goodluck on future projects, I know you'll come up with something great.

I figured this much, hence why I wasn't going to post this originally. However with that said, I felt it would be a disservice not to. It plays in a manner that was simply not available otherwise and I haven't seen it done. It is one of the more enjoyable maps I've played and is a nice break from the forge world itself.

Lastly, as there is no better place to say it. As I'm new here, I'd just like to post a quick run down on myself. As a designer by trade (I do graphic design for a living) I am a born perfectionist, for better worse, one who pays attention and sometimes harps on minor details. With that said, I've created over twenty forge maps and am only posting four from the bunch. That is not to say the others are bad in any way, but I am trying to help strengthen the already wonderful community here with only the best of what I have to offer. With that said, I really do hope you all check out and enjoy the provided maps. I've put a lot of thought, creativity and love into them.

I actually really like this. I never even thought of turning the section of the map into a map in and of itself. My only gripe is I feel like there weren't many weapons but that is something that I either just missed or can change myself if it really bothers me that much.

Great work and way to keep it simple!

Wow, I'm interested in graphic design as well...Nice. Anyways, I see what you mean, but still I'd like to see something really creative from you. I'm going to check out your other maps and give you some feedback on those. I'd like to see some of your other maps as well in the future. Oh and welcome to forgehub ;)

Thanks a bunch for the replies everyone, appreciate it!

Just for reference Natetendo, Refinery features the following weapons:

Grenade Launcher, Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Pistol x2 and DMR's/Pistols in the starting spots. Feel free to modify for your own enjoyment, this was done with MLG settings in mind.

My videos show most if not all weapon spawns, along with a provided outlook on the mindset behind the map. Check them out if you have a second.

Thanks again and EightBall I could definitely show and explain some others to you in the future over Reach. :)

Wow, great idea! And I agree, why wasn't this done before? Anywho, I believe you did a great job taking a creative concept and turning it into a functional map. I love the look of the map, it has great style with all chain-link fences and the like. When I first saw your initial picture I thought of foundry from halo 3. Good Work.

Ps. Try turning the top of the spire into a map.

Despite what many people are saying ("meh not original"), I believe that this map serves as an amazing utilization of a playspace that is often ignored in default games on Boneyarrd. This map is VERY original and simply took the dull, unappreciated rock that Bungie made and turned it into a valuable gem. Bravo.

This is exactly (and I use that term loosely) what I wanted to do! The interior of Boneyard is a fantastic environment that you never actually play on. Though my original idea was to work it for infection, I think it would play nice as just about anything (neutral objectives seem like a really good idea to me now).

Kudos for actually going through and doing what I never took the time to do.

Maps like will this will always divide opinion between forge snobs and people just looking for a map to play on.

While I agree that it takes virtually no forge ability to block off doors with shield doors, it does take a huge amount of game knowledge to see the potential in a space and create a balanced play area from it.

I honestly prefer the smaller, more competitive arena (it has perfect balance) without the forge pieces. Regardless, kudos for the similar idea and doing your own thing with it.

Thanks again for the positive feedback.

To each his own. Kudos for seeing the potential of the space, though. It's a good thing no one has seen the potential for Breakpoint yet...

I did the same with high lands, didn't get many good comments on it either.
There are many maps that have good, smaller area's that would work as a map, you did a decent job on Boneyard with this.

Don't know the forge pallet out of my head, but it does lack a few aesthetics here and there, no crates or pallets or blockades you can add?

This really does look like an intresting playspace, but just a question - Is it possible for people to jetpack out through the open vents at the top, or are there kill barriers / shield doors there? Thanks.

This seems like it could be a fairly strong 1v1 or 2v2 map. I know that many people seem to dislike the fact that it uses a pre-existing playspace, but honestly, if it plays well (which, though I haven't had a game in it, I imagine it will), I don't know that it really matters.

I look forward to getting a game on this.

Nope, there are kill boxes along with shield block offs. I don't personally play many gametypes with jetpacks in customs, usually just raw MLG style with sprint only, but I do keep every armor ability in mind when creating a map. No worries.

Comments actually are positive (not just here), there will always be one or two who criticize the idea of using pre-existing spaces, but that's what my other maps are for.

Blockades look somewhat messy compared to the shield block offs, plus there are quite a few of them. The shields also allow perfect nade bounces.

Stunt ramps are the only thing other than shield doors.
