Alright, so the other day i was forging a map on Forgeworld and i placed a couple blocks, not paying attention, and today when i went to look at them, and the glass was Black instead of blue, which turns out to look pretty cool, and it helps change up the plain forge world pallet up some.

Here is a video showing you the glass and how to do it.

Step one: Go to a hilly area.
Step two: Spawn any item you would like, but be sure that it will spawn half way into a hill, or else this glitch won't work. (sometimes it has to spawn a little bit more than half way in the ground or it won't work.)
Pro-tip: Be sure you keep about half of it inside the ground, or it will turn back to blue.
Step three: Release the item where you want it!

Pro-tip 2: If you want the piece on a flatter piece of ground, spawn it in a hill and then drag it over to the desired place and release. Be sure you keep more than half of it in the ground.

This glitch will work with anything that has glass in it. Also, this will work on Tempest aswell.

    Happy forging.

You can also make green glass by placing objects near trees (same technique only a little more difficult)

Interesting glitch. But it HAS to be half in the ground, yes?
Either way, anything different to the Forge World palette is nice.

It has to be half-way or more into any(except trees, that makes them green) natural geometry i believe. And the good thing about this is that for the large pieces like the Platform XXL's and whatnot (Not sure which one) have glass in them, and they are usually used for flooring. I could see a couple things that could be done with this glitch and I'm wondering what else haven't i discovered with it.

    It's a simple radiosity bug.

Basic explanation: maps in Halo use static lighting. When Forge World was created, a program was used to generate the "radiosity map" -- basically a diagram of where light and dark areas are. When you spawn an object, it's lit based on its position, using this diagram.

What happens here is quite simple: the "inside" of the terrain is marked on that radiosity map as being pitch-black, so when an object's centerpoint* is merged into the terrain, it's pitch-black.

The reason it didn't happen when you edited the object, and instead only when you reloaded the map, is because of a kind of "lighting lag". When you move an object in Forge, the game doesn't immediately recalculate the lighting for it. You have to move it quite a bit. So you moved the object into the dark area on the radiosity map, but because of this lighting lag, it didn't immediately turn black.

    * And by "centerpoint", I mean "when you rotate it in Forge -- the point on the object that your camera is then anchored to". Sort of like the object's center of gravity.

Lucky I watched the vid, I thought you meant the hole object turned pitch black(which you can do).

But now I understand why I thought some of my glass was disappearing.

I didnt want to occupy all that space again but I found your explanation on lighting quite interesting. I already knew about the green near trees and the black glass, but I didnt understand why, this is useful knowledge, and also explains why there is no change in lighting above forgeworld, where some maps are made. I think it takes these sort of discoveries to find good spots for a map, as I recently discovered for instance one side of the Colosseum is a dark blue sort of color, and the other a lighter yellowish hue, all naturally to the map. I believe using these natural lighting techniques can be quite powerful and to our advantage if we do use them properly of course.

Actually, I was just making a map yesterday using this little glitch to make the glass look nicer. However, I was only really using bigger building block pieces, did you try it with other kinds of pieces, such as a glass, cover or glass sail? If not, I'll hop on and try it later today.
