Righty ho Lads, I've been tweaking, rebuilding and modifying this map in minor ways for literally months - so I've finally decided to just man up and get it out there, lest it never see the light of day.

Thaumaturgic is a Medium sized, team oriented map - but it also supports a swathe of FFA and Multi-Team objectives. The weapon set is somewhat minimalist, but as I designed the map with DMR spawns in mind, I didn't want to weigh it down with excessive and unnecessary weaponry.

Speaking of guns, you can find the following on this map:
2x Sniper Rifle (120 respawn, no spare clip)
1x Rocket Launcher (180 respawn, no spare clip)
    4x DMR
    2x Needle Rifle

These aren't guns, but still pretty important:
    4x Frags
    4x Stickies
    4x Health Pack

We'll go into where they are later.

The main layout of the map revolves around around the central area, the two bases, and the flanks at either side of the map. The following screenies encapsulate this pretty well.

    Blue Base:

    Central Area:

    Flank:

The Weapons and Health Packs spawn in the following locations.

Snipers spawn at the rear of each base:

    Rockets spawn bottom mid:

A Health pack and two DMRs spawn at the front of each base:

Frags spawn in pairs at either side of top mid, with Needle Rifles spawning just below.

Stickies and a further Health Pack spawn at the central structure of each flank:

As visible in the left of the image below, there is also a lift either side of the central area of the map.

These are shield-door based, and require you to jump. However, if your jumping aim is poor, the lower door is slightly tilted so that it will still take you up even if you hit the ceiling whilst in very close proximity to the lift - basically only if you miss.

    Simply jump in here...

    And pop out here!

They need to be tried to be believed.

As mentioned earlier, whilst the map was designed with standard two team games such as slayer, flag and oddball in mind, it also fully supports slightly more unusual gametypes, such as FFA headhunter and 4 team assault - and I would encourage you to try it if you find yourself in a party big enough!

I'm not sure there's an awful lot more to say, other than your downloads are much appreciated, and any criticism, either constructive or destructive, is welcome. If you want to be a level 5 bro, you could even drop me some gameplay via whatever means - It would be very much appreciated.

    Cheers, and hope you enjoy!

i love the bridge that extends out of the side of the map.

But if i were you, id try to go a little more detailed and add a little bit of cover on stairways and stuff, unless you have a small budget.

    Good job overall, though.

Cheers! It's not so much a budget issue - I ran into some ridiculous framerate problems on my first version of this map, so I really kept the object count down when I rebuilt it to get rid of the problem. Also I tried to keep the upper level fairly exposed, otherwise it would become too powerful a position. Thanks for the input :D

This is actually a great first map! Sadly, this wont get much attention due to your low level of popularity, seeing as you are new and all. I frown upon the hierarchy of ForgeHub. Next time, try posting a map preview in the Halo Reach Forum.

This really looks like a great map, design in general. Looks like it could be alot a lot of fun and well suited for any type of game for sure, the design of it really makes me think some influence came from more of a MLG perspective then was design to allow it to be more fluid for other game types. The middle is somewhat open but also rewarding, maybe add just slight cover to that area otherwise I'm not sure if a skilled player will risk a death just to get off one shot with the rockets. I hope you keep this up and update this as well overtime, I just hope this gets the attention it does indeed deserve you have my download :).

    Edited by merge:

Alright guys, clear the floors and lock the doors. Updates!

As well as other minor tweaks, top mid is now delicious:

It took me aeons to find a decent flooring configuration, but I think I finally managed it - to the tune of 32 less items.
Framerate is thus no longer a problem, so you can play your games without fear of surprise slo-mo.

Cheers, and as always, feedback is warmly accepted!

This map has clearly had a lot of thought and time put into making it cleanly and efficiently designed. I think the middle area looks better with the new design – less is often more.
