I keep seeing these awesome maps using the 'insane' gametype. Was it added later by Bungie? I can't see it in the regular gametypes section and I have no clue how people are making these super weird and awesome maps / games.

Can someone link it and explain what it is?

It is in the regular gametype section, I think.

Basically, a while ago Bungie added two new gametypes: HaloBall (Golf?) and SpeedFlag (Stockpile with multiple flag pickups and the ability to put a flag on your back). *Those might not be the exact gametype names*

But most games that use the "Insane" Gametypes use Haloball, because you can set any object to the "Ball" and any other object to the "Hole".

If that doesn't explain it, I have to idea how to explain it any other way, maybe some one else could help?

Isn't Halo Chess also an Insane gametype?

Insane gametypes are categorized by the things that Bungie added into the game during an update for Reach a few months ago. The reason that they get their own gametype category is because they could have never been made using the normal gametype settings; so basically, Bungie modded their own game and Insane gametypes are their allowed mods.

Things like playing chess, having a game of hockey where a point is made when two objects collide (ie: ball and goal) and flaming skulls shoot out of goals, carrying flags on your back were never possible when Reach was released.

Ive seen a map with hundreds of golf balls and stuff that instantly spawn, is that something to do with the insane gametype?

This should cover questions regarding individual gametypes.

Insane is a Gametype category, not just one gametype. The Insane gametypes are Chess, Haloball, and Speedpile.
