Recently I've discovered a rational explanation for a lot of simple ideas that people understand, yet are unable to explain. Have you ever thought about someone's personality, and been able to understand it yourself, but not describe it?

It makes me feel slightly unintelligent that simple things like these, that maybe everyone already knows besides myself, are such minirevelations to me.

Ex - "Awkward" when used as an adjective to describe someone, refers to their inability to react appropriately, or behave in certain situations.

I wanted to share this to ask if you had similar observations and simplified explanations of them such as the example.

If I'm a dumbass let me know now before I bring it up somewhere besides the internet.

these 'people' are pretty disabled not to be able to define basic words.

but if you managed to define a colour than hell youre on to something.

i know what you're talking about. It has a simple name (_____ memory) in psychology. It's like you know how to do something, but you can't explain how. It's one of those things you 'just do.'

For no relevant reason, this reminds me of something. Consider the following scenario.

You are on the ground floor of a building and want to go up the elevator. You hit the "up" button and wait. The elevator arrives and the door opens. You quickly notice a man inside with his back turned to you, facing the rear wall. His nose is about half an inch from the wall he is facing. Do you get in?

Humans are the only species that would even consider getting in the elevator under these circumstances. All animals are programmed to sense when something is simply "wrong". But humans have a fear of embarrassment, and carry out what they perceive to be expected of them, even if it terrifies other sensabilities.

Lol someone honestly has to explain this to me. I'm probably just retarded, but what's so "wrong" about a man nearly boning a wall?

Yes, but aside from the gloominess inherent to the picture, it illustrates the creepiness of the position rather well.

I'd first remove all of my clothing and then get in. See if I can't make the situation any less ridiculous.

Without looking, do you remember how many air vents/where they are in your room (on the ceiling or otherwise)? How is it that you can live there for years and yet not notice semi-obvious things like that?

I have no air vents. Noticed that almost immediately once I moved into this down-grade bedroom.

Sorry, coming up with a universal example is difficult.

Well I mean sure, in that situation yes. But hopefully the elevator I'm climbing aboard won't look like that :\

I'd probably get in but have my knife ready.

    Edited by merge:

And I know there are 2 vents in my room, and the basement (where I'm at know) is not finished so there are just holes in the ceiling tiles and one vent that's not connected to anything.

I know where all my air vents are in my house, because i've lived their for 13 years and I would just be able to notice that and remember it over time.
