Protect the V.I.P. 6-16 players (6 players minimum) YouTube - Halo Reach Forge Maps (THFE) - "Protect the V.I.P." (Ep. 6) Imagine a game where the old VIP variant from halo 3 was merged with grifball with a few additional changes. This is the outcome. I also like to say this is the only grifball that is both playable and just as fun (or more) with 16 players. But its the gameplay that makes this game unique, because each team must ARM another actual player. So you can just say "SPARTAN ARMED!" The first thing you'll notice is that this is a fairly simple grifball-styled map. The map was made and built to be competitive and still have that grifball atmosphere. The VIP can go anywhere on the map, including the surrounding obstacles, buildings and grav lifts. Each team starts out on their own side, along with their VIP. Each VIP is the assault destination, so they can be armed. Each player will also start out with a sword and 120% speed. Players can also use one of the scattered health packs for some extra aid. The VIP however, is a little more powerful than the rest. Each VIP spawns inside a box, in front of a red flashing light on top of an armor ability and a custom powerup. This gives them a much higher damage resistance and output, but at the cost of lower speed. The armor ability Sprint can help the VIP outrun the bomb carrier, but because of this, they cannot take sharp corners (running in circles etc.). Once a VIP is armed, they only have 3 seconds to act. THEY CAN BE DISARMED, but no one has been able to do it (yet). If they have teammates nearby, they can disarm the VIP fast enough before it blows. Otherwise the VIP will suffer a devastating explosion that will kill both the VIP and anyone surrounding them. Once this is done, the corresponding team will win the round and earn a point. Keep in mind, that the VIP can die, especially after the custom powerup wears off (after 1:30 minutes). But fear not, the dead VIP's body can still be armed, so game on! Also keep in mind, this is just a simple map. I do plan to make future arenas for this gametype, and I welcome anyone who wishes to make a map for this gametype. Any suggestions for a future map are also welcome.
Does this also work with Elite players, or Spartans only. Stupid question, but... [br][/br]Edited by merge: BTW, you should make a guide for how to use the Insane gametype to make epic minigames.
Spartans only. I should. But where? [br][/br]Edited by merge: Its assault. Not VIP. Its called protect the VIP because it acts like the old VIP variant, but not the same.
Hey Darth, it is apparent that you make great maps and truly know what you're doing when it comes to forging. So I was wondering if you could make some "DarthHuman Forging 101 videos or pages" (sorry if you have done this or it has been mentioned before) just so that we could all learn from the styles and tricks you use. Thanks Ps. I'm willing to help test if you ever need me, gamertag: Wardo29
This is definetly one of my favorite maps after Crash up Derby and is a great staple of custom games. Darth has managed to make yet another ingenious gametype which this time combines tow of the best things from halo 3 VIP and GRIFBALL. Its amazing that he was able to not only bring back a VIP type of game but also perfectly combine it with Griffball gameplay that works very well together. Main Comments: -INSTRUCTIONS It usually takes a few rounds for everyone to understand what is going on which makes them go by a little too quickly. Darth has done everything possible to warn the VIP that they are in fact the VIP but players will still run out towards the bomb and get themselves armed. When you play this, just make sure everyone knows whats going on from the get go. -GAMEPLAY The gameplay is solid and has a nice balance. The VIP can take on several players by himself but this is balanced by the instant bomb arm time that would lead to a loss should the VIP try and take on the enemy team. Once everyone gets comfortable with the game, there are actually alot of strategies which can develop and make the game more interesting. My favorite so far would have to be when my entire team fell back to the VIP's box and heroicly defended him. This worked for a while but eventually an oposing player squeezed through in one of their charges and armed our VIP. Though we all blew up it was tons of fun. -MAP The map fits the gametype pretty well but I feel that it can be improved. The bases on the sides should be changed for one. No one goes inside so there isnt much point of having an inside and the ramps going to the top all have slight bumps. They are small but it is enough of a disturbance to break your sprint and force you to jump a bit. This usually isnt a big deal but several times as the VIP it has slowed me down enough that I was armed by the other team. -AESTHETICS The map serves its purpose but nothing really stands out. This isnt a problem given the memorable gameplay but being big on details myself, I always say that a little aesthetic improvement couldnt hurt. Maybe add a theme to the map. I was thiking of maybe having the map built in the coliseum so you can get some grass going and break up the bland greyness. With this approach you can maybe make some sunken columns and broken temples to give it an ancient greek feel. This would go well with the sword gameplay and make it even more fun. Maybe even make a well in the center of the map (like in 300) that people have to avoid. Come to think of it you could actually make a second version that takes the game in a more parcour/ assasins creed direction. That would be awesome with the VIP gametype...
