OK, heres the n00b version, even i was confused dont worry 1: Set up 1-2 barriers and support them with weapon holders on the sides so people cant melle them down 2: put a gravity lift on a weapon hilder facing downward, behind the barriers and set it to not start at the beginning of the game 3: create a gravity lift somewhere else on the map, and set to never respawn, 4: now make it so there will always be 1 gravity lift on the map, {press X to tinker with this} 5: now when you destroy the gravity lift, one will spawn behind the barriers and push them down from behing, thus creating a door that is switch oppenable* 2/11/08 UPDATE: We're holding a session for those of you having trouble with this trick. Come join, and we will give you a few tips as well. Keep in mind: Check out the Steps for other ways to do this trick! They may be better for you! Well, I was messing around with Forge and tried this idea I had out. It works pretty well. And it's really neat. It's a Gate, and you push a button to open it! Just like the Highground gate! Heres how you do it: Steps 1. Set up an area you want the gate to be placed in. 2. Put up a secured "gate" with 4 Weapon Holders supporting the back, and 2 supporting the front sides. You can do this by: placing the Weapon Holders on Crates, then deleting the Crate. / Or you could just use a Dumpster instead of a Barrier all together. (Properties: Place on Start = Yes, Respawn Rate = Never, Instant Repsawn) 3. Place a "button" wherever you like. This will activate The gate. (Properties: Place on Start = Yes, Respawn Rate = Never) 4. Place a Gravity Lift that is on a downward angle, being held by a Weapon Holder. Take note, it does NOT have to be on a Double Box. You may want to put this in a "Behind the Scenes" spot. (Properties: Place on Start = Yes, Respawn Rate = Never) 5. Next, place a Fusion Coil directly over the Gravity Lift, about one Single Box above. Then delete the Single Box. (Properties: Place on Start = No, Respawn Rate = 180, Runtime Minimum = 1) 6. Then, place a Gravity Lift aiming down at the "gate". Make sure the Gravity Lift is being held by a Weapon Holder. / Or, you could make the Gravity lift on a upward angle, then make a roof so the "gate" hits the top and sticks (this way the "debris" of tne "gate" isn't on the ground). You may want to set up walls around the "tube" the "gate" is sent up. (Properties: Place on Start = No, Respawn Rate = 180, Runtime Minimum = 1) 7. You have finished the hard stuff! Now all you have to do is add a prize, such as: a Vehicle, a Weapon, a Flag, Access to more of the map, etc. Get creative, and have fun with it. Make sure you ONLY have 2 Fusion Coils, and 2 Gravity Lifts on the map at any time. How to use it: 1. Find your Button 2. Blow it up 3. The gate opens. 4. Run through it! Keep in mind this works on any map. And It dosen't have to be Barriers for the "gate". I may post a Youtube Tutorial on this, but only if this thread get's big. So spread the word, tell everyone to comment. Folowing up on that, I have this map (right now) on my File Share. So go look at that. Thanks for reading! Performed, found, and typed by: Iguana117
This isn't mine, i'm just the bungie reporter, but the best help i can give you is to download the map that is provided and from there you can get a better understanding of how the gate is operable.
Wow, it's just a very simple minimum/maximum switch. Still cool, though... I will test it out. Anyone who is confused (just trying to help, not advertising), check out H3A. The link is in my signature... it is all about switches.
I just checked out the map. Very complicated idea to open one gate. I suppose with a few run-time adjustments, it can be made to open multiple gates.
Hmm....sounds a little confusing/difficult to do. I too would like to see a video on youtube, hopefully the OP posts one sometime sooner or later. Also, shouldn't this be in Forge Discussion?
This isnt that hard to do There are other easier ways to do it though, simpler. Good for zombie games, that's for sure.
I saw the "button" photo on Bungie, and it is too simple. You probably want the "Torpedo Switch" combined with the gate to make it more 'button-like'. I made a map based on a switch, so I've seen them before.
that was really helpful I don't know if you do or not already but this should go on the halo 3 forums on bungie.net it would help a lot of up and coming forgers who don't know about this site
This is rather interesting, I might try to use this in a future map. Thanks for the tutorial! :squirrel_hug:
For some reason, Y35, your constant reposting of B.net topics is a bit tiresome. I mean, if we wanted to, we could just go to Bungie Forums.
I kind of get it, but am having trouble visualising it. From what I see though, this is a great idea!
sounds like a simple but useful switch, meh. Most possible switches have already been discovered in the artificiers place though. Again with the pasting of bungie.net stuff though...i mena ive already read msot of it and i click, thinking its something new/interesting and...UGH
