I don't expect this to be popular, but I may as well create it so the few who actually play Magic have somewhere to talk.

Duels of the Planeswalkers is an excellent xbox arcade game for people that want to learn about magic....that is all.

I've seen lots of people playing it, and I know it has a large following.
    But i've never played it.

Like to talk a little about it? Should I buy it?

It's great fun to play with your friends. I've played it with Shad0w, Chrs, and one of my chums in real life. There's a campaign that comes with the game, some various challenges that will test your knowledge of the game.

If you can find some other people to casually play with, I'd invest in it. It's a great game to turn to when you're tired of other games, mostly halo for me.

It's a great card game, more balanced than others. I'm always competing with my friends to make better and stronger decks than theirs.

I recently made a green-black deck, which can swarm opponents in a few turns.

I, personally, wouldn't invest in the cards. It takes some money to build a good deck and compete with friends.

You're probably better off getting the arcade game Neoshadow. It comes with some good decks and you can customize them somewhat.

That is true, some of my friends have dropped hundreds into it, but its funny seeing someone's cheapo barebones deck beat a super expensive multiple paycheck deck.

I've been playing on and off since 6th grade (10 years ago for reference) and I've lost almost entire interest in purchasing physical cards because I feel the newest sets have become so RIDICULOUSLY OVER-POWERED AND BROKEN (see: Eldrazi, Argentum Armor) that they completely nullify the older, more classic sets. I don't play tournament, just casually with friends so we let any card into a deck that we own and a friend of mine just started and bought the Eldrazi stuff and I have not won a game this year against him. It's so ridiculous.

On another note, the xbox arcade game is sweet. It's balanced, only one major glitch (dual strike not working properly sometimes) and the campaign can be tough as nails sometimes, which I like.

If that game ever gets the full deck editor and a full library of decks it would be the best arcade game out there in my opinion. I would gladly pay for digital decks if they set that up.

For the most part the base decks are optimized for new and experienced players. It keeps newer players from hamstringing themselves by mistake and it keeps the deck balanced for experienced players so that the cards aren't as important as how you play them.

Agreed. And they accomplish that quite well. Except for Sorin Markovs damned Vampires. I still think that deck is broken with 4 Vampire Nighthawks, 2 Vampire Nocturnus', 2 Malakir Bloodwitchs and an Anowon. It's ridiculous how quick that deck can become unkillable.

...Did you read my compliment as not a compliment? My point was simply if they added those things it would make it the best arcade game out there. The thousands of posts on the magic forums regarding this attest to that ;)

No I totally agree. Did you not read my blatant disregard for your comment as complete agreement?lol. I don't see how hard it would be for them to do that, there are a bunch of cards in the game too that aren't in any decks. Look at what is available in some of the challenges, you never see those cards in any decks except in challenges.
