    Overview

    Precipice is an asymmetrical map built in Blood Gulch, just above the cave. The map uses a mixture of natural geometry and forge objects to create a truly unique playing space. The map should feel like a mixture of Turf and Lockout, with a completely new twist. The map is perfect for Slayer and Team Slayer games alike, so the map should work well for any party ranging from 2-10 players. Additionally, this map has been built with a minimal mind set in order to boost performance. The map uses just under 5,000 of the budget and is devoid of frame rate drops when in 2 player split screen.

    Weapons
    Precipice contains 3 power weapons: the sniper rifle, grenade launcher, and the shotgun. No single weapon is overly dominant in the map, and they work well to counter one another's weaknesses. The rest of the map has a solid mix of weapons ranging from DMRs to Plasma Pistols to Plasma Repeaters.

    The outer walkway of Precipice can be dangerous, but it holds a key weapon, the sniper rifle. It is also a useful pathway for flanking your enemy.

    Purple base is another transition area like the main atrium.

    The lower walkway leading to the landing pad and the sniper rifle. There is a drop down from purple leading to this area. It's a great way to get away from action and also a spot to be ambushed. Expect a lot of action here at the start of the game.

    The central atrium is a hot spot for action. Don't get caught there too long or you'll be dead before you know it.

    A big thank you to everyone who helped me with this map. It's been in testing since January and I know you guys must be sick of testing this thing.     I remember testing this a while back. The gameplay was fantastic due to the great map flow. The layout was great as well. In the version I tested, i didn't notice a single thing wrong with it. Good job DtL. And congrats on your bnet feature!

    I saw the preview for this a while back and from the little you showed of it, I was very impressed. Something about the central atrium just feels good and made me really want to play it.

    Then, a little while ago, I downloaded it off of the B.net spotlight and was pleasantly satisfied with the rest of the map. Everything flows together very well and what I really like about it is that it isn't like every other map. The layout, piece selection, and overall feel is very different from most of the maps seen today.

    Sadly, I've yet to get a game on it. That should definitely change soon.

    This map looks great, I love maps that use both the environment and forge pieces. It also looks like while the sniper is very useful, the shotgun and grenade launcher are also good weapons to use. Great job, I'll try and get a game on it soon.

    Wow DTL, you finally released this, you even got a nice interview with bungie for a map spotlight, a monument to your hard work, dedication, and attention to detail. This is my favorite FFA map of all time, easily. You are also among my favorite forgers of all time you never fail to capture that awesome urban atmosphere, but the aesthetics are only the icing on the cake, this map, like all your others, has some of the best gameplay reach has to offer without a doubt. I look forward to your every map with anticipation. Keep it up :D

    Thanks for the kind words guys! I also want to let everyone know that this map is built to handle 4 player split screen with zero frame rate drops. So feel free to pick up some extra controllers with your friends and give this one a shot!

    Good to finally see this released DtL! I've been secretly following this map since the preview and I managed to get a forge-through on it earlier. It looks like a pretty solid design and I'm hoping that I'll be able to get a game on it sometime soon. I will admit though, I'm a little worried about the Sniper Rifle being on a 30 second respawn. Is that a mistake or is it on purpose?

    It shouldn't be on a 30 second respawn... it should be on a 2 minute spawn. Now ill have to run and make sure that didn't get goofed up along the way, lol

    Y NO 5 DEADLY VENOMS PRODUCTION?

    On a serious note, this map is incredible for so many reasons. Reasons, which I will now state for the purpose of benefiting everyone who hasn't yet gotten a chance to give Precipice a go:

    1. Rarely do I get to play on a map that handles so many different gametypes so well. You can go from playing 4v4 KotH, to playing a 6 man FFA Headhunter game and still have oodles of fun.

    2. DtL really made the play-space feel very urban and did such an amazing job adding little aesthetic touches all throughout the map.

    3. As far as I can remember, he tried to be as stingy as possible with the budget in the hopes of getting rid of split-screen lag. I'm sure exactly how that worked out, but I'm hoping there is none so we can play this beauty in matchmaking.

    Truly a great map and the perfect follow-up to Abridged. LET'S GET THIS ***** IN MATCHMAKING!

    I've played this map once in each stage of development and performed horribly on every single one of them lol. The map was great and I liked all the different paths I could take to flank opponents, I just could not get my **** together on those days.

    From watching the video, I can say that for an asymmetrical map, this looks very well-forged. You didn't go overboard with aesthetics, weapon placement seems fair and most importantly, the sightlines. The sightlines, from this video, look great. One thing I think most maps lack is sightlines. I am trying to do that with my up-coming maps, but I could learn a lot from your forging tecnique. I really like that this map has a urban feel to it, from all of the comments above, I can tell this map is worth a DL. With the exception, that I get through my list of maps to download. Good work man.

    this has been a blast to test through all of its different versions.
    incredibly solid all around. a really great map.
    This map is destined for MM or a feature, i gotta say.

    Nope! That was a mistake and I have no idea how the timer was reset. The link has been updated with the fixed version. The sniper now has a 120 second respawn time. Thanks for the catch!

    Thanks! And I really owe you guys for testing this thing so often with me. It's gone through so many subtle and drastic changes thanks to the feedback everyone has provided. It really goes to show you that if you test your maps enough you can end up with a great final build.

    I've played this one a couple times, usually with Sarge. I gotta say, this is one of the best asymmetrical maps I've had the pleasure of playing on. Everything flows smoothly, power weapons are balanced, and the outdoor area breathes some life into the scenery. 8.5/10.

    I absolutely love this map. The level of cohesion between the natural landscape and the Forerunner pieces provides some great visual variation to the map. The entire area is easy to navigate, and the lines of sight are amazing. One of the best forge maps I've played. Nice job.

    I would have a request that you take that window that you have in the second pic and just try and making that a open window instead of a glass one. Other than this I do like the looks of the map a lot.

    I actually had a version of the map without the window. The problem with it, was that players on the lower level were too easily ambushed, so people would avoid the space all together. With the window, players have a strategic view of each space and there is more movement throughout the map. You're more than welcome to delete the window if you choose, but in subsequent testing I've found the map to play better with it. =)

    i love the attention paid to sight lines on this map, especially captured by the tree slightly blocking the view to between red and blue.
    the touches that i thought were particularly classy were the jump to the sniper platform and the drop onto the lower walkway.

    i'm not a big fan of the whole transition between the feel of the bases and the back corner with the grass and trees, but i think that's just personal taste

    The sniper jump was never planned, I happened to discover it while running through the map one day. It certainly gives a strategic value to sprint users at the beginning of a match, for both red and blue teams trying to reach the sniper rifle first.

    The beginning of the matches on Precipice are always my favorite for that reason. Once you reach the rifle, you need your team to help pull you out of the space safely or you'll lose the weapon to the enemy team quickly.

    This thread has been alive for a while i seems. I'm glad though because I hadn't seen it yet. This looks pretty sweet dude. I'm loving the central room. I'd love to play on it. You should add me at some point if you're interested.
