Hey everyone. Yesterday I was testing the effects and results of using armor abilities as objectives in invasion. After thinking
Over what I tested, I came up with a way VIP can be recreated in the 1st phase of invasion.

    Okay...
In a territory phase, an AA can be set to an objective and be picked up. Now what if the armor ability was placed at an initial spawn. Then, the player who started there would instantly pick up the AA. If the shape was set right, there would be no interference from a hill. The territory could be set so that it tajes a minute to capture. This means the 'VIP' would have to be alive for one minute. If he succeeds, then his team moves onwards to the second phase.

This also works the other way. A defender can spawn as the VIP with a territory that takes one second to capture. Then if the enemy smite him in battle, they just need to walk over his dead corpse to move on.

    Wow, I know right?

Perhaps Maybe this same Idea can be used for a safe haven in infection? Great find though.

There's a problem when the VIP dies. The territory stays stuck to them and the game just becomes Capture the Corpse. Well, until the body disappears.

I switched the 2 capture points on Boneyard to equipment and things don't work out the way you'd like. The waypoint is stationary so the only indication that some one is the VIP is if you gave the AA a shape. Killing the VIP causes the capture point to disappear, the waypoint remains and the round doesn't end, so if the VIP does die then you just have to wait for the timer.

It is a good idea though. Its fine if the VIP team is successful, sounds fun. But if the VIP team isn't successful then the game breaks down.
If you can work something out, I'd be interested. My Invasion idea involved capturing some warthogs and using them to attack in the next stage but I ran in to similar problems.

to fix the waypoint i would place a CP over the AA so that a VIP can have a different set of traits. this means i can give them a waypoint. this means the AA can have no shape which eliminates Capture the Corpse. Also, i can set the timer on the round to one minute if the attackers need to defend for one minute. if the attackers need to kill the VIP, the VIP enemy can have a large shape that as soon as he is dead, any spartan next to his corpse would capture the zone

The purpose of VIP is for the attackers to kill the VIP before he makes to the end. Your version could work but as someone said, as soon as he dies it's just capture the corpse.
Also I shouldn't mention this, cos my friend told me not to, but he has created a working VIP gametype and it doesn't use invasion. I can't say any more.

    Exactly.

And "Capture the Corpse" doesn't even work very well, as dead bodies don't sync in Multiplayer. I've used similar trickery with AAs in other gametypes (for non-VIP-related purposes), and what generally happens is that the physical location of the capture point syncs properly, but the visual location doesn't. The glowing boundaries appear in different locations for everyone, but they can only get points if they walk into the actual (invisible) boundaries.

If you do that, then the territory cannot be captured. (Assigning the INV_OBJECTIVE label to the Custom Powerup also won't work. When the VIP grabs the Custom Powerup, he doesn't grab the label; the powerup just vanishes and there'll be no INV_OBJECTIVE left on the map.)

If any other defenders are in the territory, they will continue to contest it. The attackers would pretty much need to force the entire enemy team away from the territory before they could capture it.

well the VIP could have an objective if it was set to core capture. core carrier would move really slowly to make sure the VIP is used

    Edited by merge:

indeed, but the capture would be 1 second
