Narayan “When I finally made it back to Narayan, I saw… It would have been better if I had died.” -Saavedro Narayan is a small map intended for 2-8 players. It is a simple yet effective design. A player will instantly understand the layout and yet the map provides ample opportunity to use your environment wisely. Again this map is a bit of a departure from my other maps, but I’m trying to branch out. It received great reviews from my friends who think it makes a great smaller map. Narayan Originally the map had a lot more glass to it, but I had to remove it due to lag. At the moment the map can be considered lag free. There is still some glass used as cover and some windows that give you a view of what’s happening on the outside, but it doesn’t cause any lag. The map is based around a two floor building that contains two DMRs, the Assault Rifle, and the Plasma Pistol. A small balcony on the second floor houses the Sniper Rifle. The lower floor has three exits that connect to the outer walkway. The exit below the second floor balcony leads directly to the Shotgun. The walkway wraps around to the other side where it just out into a rock structure that contains the Energy Sword. The walkway also has two DMRs and two Magnums. Aesthetically, the map contains a foot bath much like the one I placed in Anthem. I also used the sword stand from Fountainhead. The map being at the water gave me a new idea, however, Instead of making the floor out of 4x4 Flats, I used large platforms instead. If you look closely you will notice that the water moves through the glass of the platforms without actually crossing over the platforms themselves. It creates a very neat effect. Regarding gameplay, the map has some good long distance and close quarters combat. The lower floor of the man structure is almost exclusively close quarters spare a few sightlines. The upper floor gives some good mid-range to long-range combat that is broken up with ample cover. The walkways on the outside provide some long sightlines, but also have enough turns, bends, and exits to allow a player to duck out of the way. Narayan is set up for FFA, Team Slayer, King of the Hill, Infection, Juggernaut, Oddball, and Capture the Flag. I personally recommend FFA, Team Slayer, Infection, and King of the Hill. This map has good potential, and I think it has great structure but, I think it could use a few lights to brighten up the place.
Do you have any frame rate issues? I had to move a map located in the same area, and your object density might be too high to handle that location.
As I stated in the post there were some framerate issues but removing much of the glass I had in the map and replacing it with walls now makes the map play perfectly. I was very conscience to make sure there wasn't any lag. Also I think adding in lights would probably bring back the lag, I really wanted to place a light but the map now plays great with a good balance of aesthetics.
I noticed the designs follow the same as the other 2 maps you'v posted. Which then means to go without saying that this map is nicely done! Good job!
Thanks hollow, even though my maps play radically different they all seem to come out a similar visual style, and I'm fine with that. The exception being Galt's Gulch the map looks very different from my others but I like the asian-esque style of the lower building and the imperialistic style of the larger one.
sweet looking map. the video amplified the aggression to download the map. so i did. yeah i was worried about lag areas and also when scoping. but i read your comment and cant wait to try it. map rating: 9.5/10
it looks good and everything, but you should probably change the sword stand, because you could hide behind it, you probably have to jump to get the sword, and it looks a bit odd in the middle of rocks. perhaps you could put a rock medium 2 and use it as a flat surface to put the sword on???
I guess you could hide behind the sword stand, but I'm not sure why. All a player would have to do is toss two grenades back there and you would be toast. The rocks are there to give players some cover in between the bridge to duck behind. Oh and you won't have to jump to get the sword, you can pick it up from the ground. But if your biggest gripe is one decor choice I'll take it
Very interesting map Atlas. I like the fact that you make maps that float and look good. The aesthetics seem the same, but I do that too. It's not about what the aesthetics are and if they're the same, it's about the map layout and its difference from all of your other maps. Anyways, I like how you make an outside area to go, it kind of make the map alittle more unique and would make the spawning even better. I would have to DL to get a better feel for this map, but really nice job from what I can see.
Thanks Eightball! Spawning does seem to do a good job of spreading out the hot zones of this map and making sure the whole map gets used.
