But this one breaks tradition: One player only. No checkpoints. 1600 Microsoft Points. That's right--the first ever official Flaming Ninja Challenge contest! 1600 Microsoft Points will go to the player that completes this Flaming Ninja Challenge faster than any other! Want to see what you're up against? If you get stuck, in one week I'll be updating this very post with a walkthrough video with tips for beating each obstacle. i dont like the fact that you die you have to restart the game. also i have got up to the golf balls so far ( the bit after the sliding shield doors)
I don't like that fact either, but we need to keep something in mind here: This map was designed specifically for this contest--not the other way around (designing an obstacle course and then just throwing a prize on it just because I can). Making that decision led me down a certain path: to ensure all players are judged fairly on time, I'm judging based on the time of the entire saved film, rather than letting people submit film clips. So I need each attempt to be a separate saved film. In doing that, I knew I could build obstacles that didn't need to automatically reset. The double golf ball jump would be IMPOSSIBLE to build without having a new game/round after each attempt, since it is critical that the golf balls are in sync. The same thing with the other golf ball obstacles--I like these obstacles alot, and they can only exist because I'm not requiring my obstacles to automatically reset (unlike every other FNC I've built up until now). The only downside is, like you said, I force players to start a new game on each attempt. It's a necessary evil. If you want to practice, I suggest either Forge or adjusting the gametype to have 10 rounds--but keep in mind, if you're practicing that way and reach the end, your saved film is disqualified. It only counts if you use the unedited map and unedited gametype.
yes i attempted this in forge and i got quite far i think up to the trip mines however the bit with the golf balls the second time seems virtually impossible i am actually amazed at how incredibly hard it is however if you didnt die on some bits it would make it alot easier so i guess its all fair now that i know what to do via forge il have a go using the normal one but i dont get it... so if u die each time and save the film clips you can send them in but why dont you just get a flawless run and send that in
That is precisely what I want--I want your one awesome fastest flawless film. I don't know how I gave you the impression that I want a bunch of films of you dying--I don't
You didn't, your post is clear, and the link to the other post is clearer. The fact that anyone is confused means that they either didn't read what you had to say or, well, let's hope it's not the other possibility. In any case, it is indeed virtually impossible to do without loads of practice. So far, in game, I've gotten to the point where I can jump over to the second golf ball part, but in all reality, I doubt I'm ever getting past that part, and even if I do, the part with the mines is also pretty ridiculous. We'll see how it goes though, I've only tried it like 4 or 5 times in the actual thing so I maybe I'm exaggerating. Anyway, thanks for the game, it's a nice challenge.
It is hard, I'll give you that. I forced myself to do a walkthrough vid before I released the map, so I know! I realize some players won't be able to finish the map--I hope no one is hard on themselves because of it. This map is heavy on the golf ball, not all maps will be like that. I've actually had one entry come in already, so with my walkthrough vid that means at least two people have finished it .. I'll be posting the walkthrough Friday, not sure how much it will help but at least it will let people vicariously experience the map, I suppose... p.s., in attemping to do that walkthrough, I actually went back into Forge and made the gravbeam-to-triple-golfball-jump section much easier. It's the hardest part of the course and it's a little scary to reflect on the fact that it was much harder than it is now..
Actually in the golf ball tower, the kill areas are faulty. Many times ive died before falling off, causing much rage. Is this fixable? Also, regarding last post, does that mean there is an updated version?
Read it again, follow the timeline - made map, walkthrough vid, fixed golf ball part a bit after walkthrough vid, released map. So the answer to your question is no.
The killzones are 4 units high.. I believe when I tested, 3 units was insufficient to kill a player standing on the ground, so I can't lower the killzone any further. Of all the times I tested, I didn't die in the way you mention.. I'm not sure what you're doing differently than me, but I don't plan to change the map. Sorry for the rage! IcyBullet beat me to it, but no--there are no, and will be no updated versions of the map, as that would cause problems with the contest.
YESHHHHH, I finally beat it. That had to be the most difficult and time consuming thing Ive ever done. I envy your skill at making obstacle/ trick jumping maps. I can now honestly call myself a flaming ninja. Oh, and thanks for the walkthough, it showed me more shortcuts than I already had. Altogether they let me bet you by a little over two minutes!
Good job! I was pretty loose in my walkthrough--I didn't want to give away the best shortcuts, so there was definitely room to beat my "par time". Don't forget, the contest ends Thursday night, so get that film sent in to me.
Although I agree you shouldn't/can't change it obviously, the map will kill you regardless of whether or not you're on top of the ball in certain points, you have to take certain paths to survive it. In addition, if you place multiple kill zones on top of each other, it doesn't matter if it's .3 or not, just for your future maps if you ever need to use that. Just stack them.
Yeah, I noticed you kind of avoided looking at the *cough*mancannon*cough* in the climb-up tower (as I call it). Also, you wouldnt have happened to place a weapon underwater in the climb-up tower area would you? So who won? Or are you still shuffling through the submissions?
Yeah, you found the shortcut! Although, had you let your jetpack fully recharge, you could have made it from the mancannon all the way to the teleporter in one burn. Your golfball balancing performance was pretty impressive, I must say! And it sounds like you found the hidden pro-pipe, no less! Nice. I've hidden one in my last 3 obstacle courses. You won. Of 2,470 map/gametype downloads, I only had 2 entries. You beat the other player by 25 seconds. I'll be sending the 1600 points code via XBL text message to your gamertag in a few minutes--I'm updating the main thread here and a few other places where I announced the contest right now.
OMIGAWD! OMIGAWD! OMIGAWD! I WON I WON I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11one I would like to thank the academy... wait... this is Halo thats right. I would like to thank my lack of scheduled time and friends(not scheduled) that let me spend so much time on this! Regarding the pro pipe, was I supposed to pick that up and get a bonus or something, or is it just special that I saw I symbol that I thought was a grenade launcher (I just said weapon because I didnt know if it was a grenade launcher)about a millisecond before I died.
