Multiplayer Generator Defense!

    I have made a working multiplayer generator defense map and gametype.

    info: The map is a version of pinacle with 1 generator.

    How it works (3rd version (not yet uploaded)):
    It is based of the hockey/ haloball gametype. One side of a hollow tube is open with deployable covers in front of it. Inside the tube, a golf ball is supported by propane tanks. The golf ball has the tag Skee_ball_obj. When the propane tanks are destroyed the ball falls down into the goal (a hill with the HB_goal tag). The ball and the propane tanks are visible and neither respawn so a generator can only be destroyed once and it is easy enough to see whether a generator is destroyed.


    Advantages:
    - each generator can only be destroyed once
    - each generator has a recharging defense
    - the attackers score as soon as the generator is destroyed

    Disadvantages:
    - it is somewhat difficult to tell whether a generator has been destroyed
    - this type of generator has to be positioned with some empty space below the entrance
    - the way to destroy a generator is not obvious
    - it is a bit too easy to destroy a generator.

    Wouldn't it be easier just to have a tube with ball at top and deployable cover half merged into the tube so most of its sticking out and just a little is sticking in the tube to stop the ball falling and when its destroyed the ball falls into the scoring area.

    And to cover your Disadvantage list
    - it is difficult (but not impossible) to tell whether a generator has been destroyed
    There is no deployable cover sticking out the generators destroyed
    - this type of generator has to be positioned with empty space below the entrance (I am working on a type of generator where the ball moves upwards)
    This simple way wouldn't be any larger than a normal FF generator
    - the way to destroy a generator is not obvious
    Shoot the obvious sticking out destroyable cover=point.
    - it is too easy to destroy a generator.
    Make players damage and damage resistance 10% in custom game settings so the deployable cover last 10X the damage without effecting PVP if that's not enough put more deployable covers.

    I didn't really used all of my brainenergy to undestand everything he wrote up thur, but your comment sounds simple and logical, at least that's what it seems like after I read it one time :D
    SO: obvious complex fail is now easily epic win

    Guess this gametype would be cool :)
    forge a map for it (and gametype and stuff) and i'll definitely download it ;)

    The deployable cover idea is really good. I'd like to see someone run with that. Seems like you could add a few of them sticking from different sides so more damage would have to be dealt to the generator, and from different angles, to fully destroy it.

    for real, some1 forge a map for that gametype, I'm forging already on my own cool map and it's much too good to stop it for this :D

    I wish it were so easy but with your method the ball would respawn and continuosly fall into the goal while the deployable cover was destroyed. Also the deployable cover reappears after a while. With my method the generator can only be destroyed once.

    is there the possibility to spawn some block when the ball hits the goal?
    i'm not really well informed about the possibilities with labels and stuff :D

    A picture of the map would not help anyone undrestand the concept. The map is basically pinacle with a generator at the sniper spawn.

    I'm afraid that you cannot make a blcok spawn when you score. So I have ahd to use a skee_ball_obj tab on a golf ball and make the respawn set to never so the ball does not respawn when it scores.

    so the ball never respawns?.... obvious fail is obvious....

    why not just use this method with shield looking out of a tube, the ball can fall through it and the ball will simply NOT respawn after destroying the "generator" once? xD
    I don't know whether YOU are confused and just don't understand it or I'm too stupid to think about it right :D
    but it should work with the tube and stuff? ball respawn to never and you got it? ö.Ö

    Before I did not realise that the ball never respawned, so my complicated method was the only way of making it so that it could only be destroyed once.

    However I have now improved it using a method somewhat similar to yours. One side of the tube is open with deployable covers in front of it. Inside the tube, the ball is supported by propane tanks. The ball and the propane tanks are visible and neither respawn.

    PS: please use a slightly less offensive tone.

    also I said only stupid to myself and "confused" to you, so it was clearly not offensive in any way? :p


    but let's stop arguing about some random-stuff who sounds offensive and not, fact:
    we all (whoever posted here in this thread) found a good method and it's ready to get played :p

    are you gonna forge a generator defense map?
    maybe a map specific for that gametype, because the whole gameplay is more like invasion than slayer or sth. you could build bases with generators in it and so on :)

    On my file share (follow the link in the OP) I have gametypes for generator defence with 1 generator and generator defence with 2 generators. I also have two maps for generator defense. the are pinacle with 1 generator and pinacle with 2 generators. We already know that the current maps play well so I will stick with adapting those for generator defense before making any gametype specific maps.

    When I'm finished on my map, I might try that gametype and everything too :)
    Guess it's cool.

    If it works really well why shouldn't it be added to community playlist or action sack or sth :D
