well a bunch of the employees at Certain Affinity used to be halo 2/3 multiplayer map designers so....yeah.
I love highlands. This is how a btb map is supposed to be. It is fun to drive around but it takes more skill than most other maps. But it's also fairly easy to get around on foot and find weapons. These improvements is what ruined the first btb matchmaking. Paradiso, Hemorage, Spire and Boneyard all lack in these aspects. Breakdown was the first DLC map that improved this and Highlands sets a new standard. Too bad that it had to take so long for Bungie to figure out what was wrong with the old BTB maps.
okay, good answer. I guess i just don't expect as much all i want is transport hog. also, i think highlands is my new favorite BTB map, but I did NOT hate boneyard, paradiso, etc like most people here do.
Highlands amazes me; it might just be my favorite map so far. The base design, map layout and overall balance is just perfect for me.
I did forge thrus on the Multiplayer maps and got one game on Unearthed. Highlands looks like it was made for for Reach. It's a BTB map with long sight lines, but also provides shitloads of cover. The map is actually larger than I thought it would be. Someone with a jetpack and sniper rifle could completely wreck people on this map. Unearthed is huge. The target locator actually comes with three rounds. I didn't get to move around a lot due to lag, but it looks like there's loads of room to drive the rocket hog around. Not a lot of cover for you, though.
Unearthed was a blast in score attack 2X. ive only played one game on it, but from what i could tell the only super cheap spot was nowhere near any ammo, so it seemed less easy to camp and be cheap on. i liked how it felt as though i had to stay on my toes because enemies were everywhere, instead of just sitting back and letting them all come to me like the other FF maps. Highlands, so far, totally love it. Condemned... i'm not sure yet but i think i like it. i dont get the zero G fascination... but its fun
Condemned seems to be a little out of place within the playlist; it seems like it would really excel in 6-8 player FFAs rather than 6v6s. It just gets too crowded with people nading each other in the more confined areas. I had a game where people quit out and it turned into 4v4, which was lots of fun, which lead me to this idea. I'm really enjoying Unearthed, brings me back to the good old days of when Lost Platoon hogging with a friend in ODST wasn't played to death. I don't think it would be a stretch to say this one is my favorite of the maps. Highlands is just what BTB needs. Too bad it's DLC and will never be seen in the BTB playlist, and Hemorrhage will still reign supreme (all hail).
second thoughts on Highlands: the map can be a REAL ***** when the other team knows the good spots. we were dominated by snipers with jetpacks. lots of really cool little places you can jetpack to on the map. they basically posted up in all the good spots around blue base and we couldnt do ****. granted that they were better players than us, but it was still something i thought noteworthy
yeah, I am worried about jetpacks. Still, some classic custom games with only sprint would be pretttttty fantastic.
Yeah hopefully the next map pack won't have another zero gravity room. Cool and all, but I'd rather not have a bunch of maps with them
I still hope they are gonna use Halo 2's DLC model. Where the DLC maps became free after X months. I don't mind paying for them to get them early and it would be a shame to only play them in DLC playlists.
Hopefully that will be less of a problem as more players learn the good spots, strategies, and weapon spawns. Often it's not even that important to use tactics like these yourself as it is to know that the other team MIGHT try it, and work to ensure that they fail.
The first few games I've played on Highlands were incredibly annoying. Maybe it's just everyone still dicking around because nobody knows the maps well enough to play strategically but I can't say I've had fun on it yet and it's actually made rage twice for whatever reason. Maybe I was just out of it yesterday.
They will never do that ever again. Once the maps are integrated into the regular playlist, they'll only appear if all players in the party have them. So players don't necessarily need the maps to play matchmaking like they did in Halo 2 where they were a requirement (which I particularly liked). Truth. And sad D: It's very rare I see DLC anywhere except for the DLC only playlists... I wish they made them mandatory for playlists
But the people who paid $60 for Reach want to be able to play it online whether or not they bought the over-priced DLC. I have bought both map packs, but those things should cost about half of what they do - I don't blame people at all for not wanting to pony up for them.
The map design is very halo 1sh. Im talking about the structures. Highlands looks beautiful. You know ships glassing, people dying... Amazing map. Im not being sarcastic. Condemned is really cool looking. I spent 5 minutes looking out the window at the battle near reach. Unhearted? The first thing I thought when i played this map is Lost Platoon.
"Unhearted" sounds really badass. Not. lol But in all seriousness, this is one of my favorite map packs ever.
Highlands Multi flag=beast mode. Condemned stockpile=not so much. The layout on condemned is just so random. Highlands on the other hand, has a really nostalgic feel. I wish I could just go into BTB, and get Highlands every damn time. Defiant map pack>noble map pack
