Just curious as to how many here have seen their maps make it into wide circulation or a community playlist?

I really enjoy Forge, but sometimes I wonder if all the time I'm investing in my own maps is going to end up going to waste. Is there any way to track or find out how many people download your map or how often it gets played?

Bud, no need to be greedy. :p You should just build for your enjoyment of forging, and for the fun time other and yourself have playing on the maps.

Though... A way to keep track of your downloads is on your bungie.net service record under your fileshare. Anything beyond that I don't really know. I would have to assume the community playlist is all by submission somewhere on the bungie forums.

Sorry I can't help too much.

I was going to say, none of my maps have gotten into a playlist, a FH feature, or a notable amount of downloads
    But I still make maps
    Why?
For the love of Forging, thus it is never a waste of time.

Honestly? If you only post your map on Forge Hub? You have no chance.

Halo 3 relied on maps being submitted to Shishka's group and he'd say yay or nay.

Halo Reach makes use of many Bungie.net groups and many levels of reviewing, picking off the lesser maps at each stage so the best and most playable maps are considered for matchmaking.

Very slim. Like almost all aspects of life, its about who you know. I get my maps played a lot by various clans, test groups etc.

My original contact was a French guy called K2 fifty who stumbled across one of my maps (Incubus) on this site. He asked to use it in the French national tournement. He subsequently introduced me to other sites, clans, communities etc. including the ones DMM white is refering to.

I'm not going to list them all on this site since I don't think I'd be thanked if several thousand forge-hubbers started posting all thier maps on thier forums :p

Thanks guys. I really enjoy Forging, and even spend a lot of time in Forge with my five year old son helping him make maps just for us and our relatives to play on, but it's frustrating to put so much time and effort into something and then realize it probably isn't going to be played on by more than a few people.

Correction, HR makes use of the many community groups and particular members (Community Cartographers) to choose maps. The Cartographers get the final say in what gets submitted, but many of them rely on their groups to choose. This of course results in many shoddy maps (yes, I went there) being submitted because people ALWAYS prefer the maps created by their friends.
I'll put it this way, the chances of getting your map into this b/s playlist are slim unless you know some one in the Cartographers.

There are some decent maps in the playlist so far, and some I've seen that are going to be in at later dates, but none of them are good enough to make the short-list of maps that I play on with my mates. The only play list worth wanting your map in is MLG.

I can't tell if this is supposed to be humorous or a sarcastic insult.

Don't worry, regardless of some people's thinking (Which is sometimes correct, but not always), everyone's map has a chance to get into Matchmaking. Regardless of the process in which your map gets discovered or picked, you should really think positively when it comes to this sort of thing.

Put effort into your map, test it, make sure it's fun, and you have just as much chance of getting in as anyone else.

And not everything is a giant conspiracy to corrupt the interwebz.

i don't fully understand how you feel on this. for the most part I usually play with my friends and rarely ever play matchmaking. Of course I wouldn't mind if bungie borrowed a few forgehub maps and imported them into their playlist.

Maybe what I need to do is just find a group into customs to play with on a regular basis, rotate between participants Forge creations?

And that right there is why I forge, to get that kind of reaction and be like "Yeah I'm the one that made this." I think it's awesome to have something you made be recognized and known by a ton of people, and for good reasons. That is my goal on this site. TO BE KNOWN AND TO BE KNOWN FOR GOOD THINGS. < unnecessary caps lock lol.

Truly, loving to forge is great, but I understand wanting some more notariety. My advice: Always make sure your maps are tested to perfection before posting, then post them to as many sites as you can; FH, HBO. Forever Forgers... it all helps. Keep up the good maps no matter what man!

Sounds great as soon as summer comes around count me in. :)

I really like it when I get to view other peoples maps. Plus instinces like this are a great time to show off maps that you are working on and getting feedback for it so that the map can be adapted for further enjoyment. :)

Popular tags seemed to have helped me a lot. I made a Duck Hunt map when Halo: Reach first came out. It was the first map I posted on Forge Hub and it got a grand total of 2 replies and maybe like 200 views. I figured it wouldn't be a big hit or anything so I just left it in my fileshare for anyone who would be interested. I tagged it with "duck hunt" after uploading it and when I checked back to delete it to make room for new maps on my fileshare, it had gotten around 4,000 downloads out of nowhere. I'm guessing the name stuck out to people searching for duck hunt and it just caught wind somehow. Unfortunately, I had to delete it because it was honestly a mediocre map but the download number was nice.

I guess the point here is, make a map that mimics something that is currently popular based on 'Most Downloaded' and make it better. Leave a stamp that makes it unique from others and I'm sure more people will take notice of your gamertag and eventually your maps.

Brother, I know exactly how you feel. I've been here for er year and still....

    Nah I'm just messing around.

To me, I think if people download the map in the first place, even if it's only a select few, realize the time and effort put into making the map into perfection. Yeah usually you get lucky if your some big name forger or an admin, because everyone assumes for a good reason that your forge maps shits they take look good. But in the end, it's all about the thought.
