That's a really interesting concept. A sniper in the middle would become a sort of objective, but it would also promote map control. Once you grab the sniper, you would either have to have control of the middle area to use the sniper effectively (so enemies wouldn't be able to attack the sniper at at close range), or grab the sniper and pull it back to your base. I might try it sometime.
4-5 kills in a row? or total? on Paradiso or Hemorrhage if I get snipe it is a guaranteed killing spree if I get set up that said I play team snipers because I love sniping, I go for snipe every game because I love sniping therefore, I will always put a sniper, or two on my maps just my opinion
as long as a sniper actually works on the map, theres nothing wrong with that. but if you're putting them on the map just for yourself to use, thats silly.
Because many people find sniping fun and there being snipers on a map makes it more fun. Also, snipers work well on all kinds of maps small, medium and large. On top of all this, they removed the beam rifle so there is barely an equivalent weapon to take it's place.
I would say the sniper is so powerful due the DMR, and it's range, you can shoot sooo much further than with the H2/H3 Battle Rifle, and can counter a sniper with a quick five shot as it's so accurate, so sniper wielders have to take down players quicker. I tend to play only MLG (sorry folks) and when people get the sniper, you rarely see more than 4/5 kills with it, because if you are playing a decent team, you are always getting shot. On maps like haemorrhage a sniper with 12 shots can easily end up with 8 kills, as most people tend to use camo and sit in the corner of the map, easy pickings, this is where the sniper becomes over powered. In a competitive smaller map, such as Sanctuary / Asylum, the sniper is finding it increasingly harder to be unnoticed, and pick people off without a problem, so a sniper with the same ammo, will result in maybe 4/5 kills. It all depends on the map, advantage points, symmetrical/asymmetrical, the loadouts of the game, and most importantly the players.
The sniper rifle is not the fault. The sniper who uses the rifle makes it "overpowered". The sniper rifle could be the worst gun ever if the sniper has no aim, but it could the deadliest weapon ever if the sniper is a good one. It all depends on the user, not the thing being used.
Snipers only make it more fun for the person holding it. For the person getting insta killed from an invis person at the other end of the map, I would hazzard to say it is distinctly LESS fun.
You could say that about any power weapon or vehicle. Anyway part of the fun is not just going on sniping frenzies, but also going for the weapon when it spawns, protecting your teammate when he has it, and killing the guy on the other team when HE has it. There's nothing more gratifying than ending a sniper's reign of terror before he's exhausted all his rounds. It can be tough on Hemorrhage because of those inviting areas behind the bases (+ active camo), but on most maps there are ways to get behind or flank a sniper who is aiming off into the distance and doesn't have any idea you're coming. I can attest that one of my favorite things to do on any map is to get behind the snipe platform on Boneyard, grenade + 1-shot the guy on the other team who is pinning my teammates down, and run off with his weapon afterward.
Well it kind of makes sense for a map like Hemorrhage to have two snipers one for each base. Now an extra sniper rifle on pinacle really makes no sense.
It makes plenty of sense. Imagine there was just one sniper on that map, wherever you feel like putting it. Whoever gets that sniper is going to one of three places: large tower, small tower, or the platform that the banshee spawned on in Halo 2. More than likely though he'd go to one of the towers because they have the best elevation combined with good cover, and because anyone approaching the tower is forced to move through his field of vision (more or less). This is a highly defensible position that is also extremely deadly to the opposing team, because the entire top area of Pinnacle (which is most of the map) is open and has little cover. There are the side paths that are lower and better-protected, but if you try to use them to get into or even near the tower, there are large stretches of both that are wide open to sniper fire as well. Your best chances of taking out the sniper, then, are 1) approaching from one of the side routes and just hoping you don't get spotted, because if you do you're dead; or 2) team DMRing and hoping you can kill the sniper before he ducks back behind cover, AND that he isn't sitting up there with teammates who will just take the sniper after he dies and pick up where he left off. What does the extra sniper give you? Balance. A sniper in either tower has to fear his counterpart in the opposite tower. He's no longer near-invincible; it's way more dangerous for him to expose himself. He also has a much greater incentive to move around regularly and try sniping from unusual positions (like out of the shotgun hole), so that his opposite on the other team can't predict where he will be firing his next shot from. The two snipers give you better, more balanced gameplay. It only becomes a problem if your team is weak and gives up control of both snipers to the enemy - in which case, it probably doesn't matter how many sniper rifles are on the map, you were going to get blown out anyway.
Hmmm... ok. now it makes some sense then to have two snipers. I am just kind of surprised (well i guess not so much really) that the sniper-rifle has more map time then its new covenant counter part.
Yeah, I think Bungie just didn't really know what to do with the focus rifle. It's an interesting weapon but it's doomed to be under-used and forgotten about ultimately.
That's another fine option! I think they are too powerful on that map, although if you play with guys who are decent with the DMR, the sniper isn't really overwhelming. You can counter it well enough to make them miss/waste shots and occasionally kill them when they poke their head out for too long. Still, they could do away with both of 'em and I don't think I'd miss them.
Everyone should stop using Pinnacle as an example, it can hardly be called a map. Anyways, here's a scenario: The Pit. Imagine a neutral sniper, possibly on Bridge, instead of one at each base. The team which acquires it will immediately retreat to their tower, and camp it out until the next sniper spawns. This is what Pegasi is referring to, the Sniper is a defensive weapon, and shouldn't be place in neutrally in most situations, because neutral areas are often more offensive-based.
if I build a map, It will work because I played so much snipers, so the maps I build (plan reflect that
I think it might work though if you put the sniper in sword room. Mainly because it's less-trafficked, so you'd probably get a brief fight for the weapon and then the victorious guy would grab his sniper and relocate. Alternatively you could put it where the OS spawned in the trench. But if it was where rockets or camo spawned, or on the bridge - no.
