Hey guys, I'm new to ForgeHub and I'd like to make my introduction with my first real effort at making a competitive Forge map.

Its name is Abyssus. A symmetrical map built at the Alaska part of Forge World and is set up for only a few gametypes as of now, but I'll get it ready for some more in the future. The map is inspired by several maps, but mainly Valhalla and Standoff. Therefor it's quite open (and thus vehicle-friendly), but still has enough cover to get you safely across the map.

Here's a picture of pretty much the entire map:

As you can see the map is centered around a main structure which nicely cuts off view from one base to the other. There are, however, structures to the side of the map to get around the main centre building.

A close look at the structure in the middle:

This structure acts as a way to cut off sight-lines from one base to the other and also makes for a fairly good place to control. It has limited cover, though so people who are up there won't be too dominant. There is a Grenade Launcher spawn on top and a Ghost that spawns at the bottom as seen in this screenshot:

    Red base:

    Blue base:

The bases of each team are kept fairly simple for easy access (to grab a flag for example). While they have enough cover in front they are very vulnerable to the sides. Both bases also have a man-cannon which will shoot you to the side structures.

    Red side:

    Blue side:

These structures were made after my first play-test of the map. It was evident that there was not enough reason to go to the sides of the map making it too centered around the middle. Adding these made the player-movement be more circular around the middle which made for a much more interesting second match.

That's about it for this map. I hope you guys can give me some pointers as to what I can change about my map. You can download it using the link at the top if you want to get a better look at the map in-game.

    WELCOME TO FORGEHUB!

Considering this is your first post, I would say your map is pretty good. You pciked a part of forge world most people don't use which is refreshing. I like how you maked your map balanced for both vehicles and pedestrians. Your structures are well made and have the core components for games but are lacking some aesthetics, might I suggest adding some prettyness to your map to make it stand out more. Other then that it's great. Also congrats on your first post without making a mistake, many new comers tend to ignore the rules.

good first map! I'm new as well and just need some pictures for my first map. I think you did well for first map, good job for not making a mistake like some other new people. Oh and did you put a soft kill boundry around the map?

The map is surrounded by hard kill barriers and a few soft kill barriers here and there mainly for some ledges and the walls at blue base.

And Mulelish, I first want to make sure the map plays well. After that I'll concentrate more on the looks of the map.

Thanks for the replies, you two.

    Edited by merge:

Tested it with some people last a few days ago and I've since made some minor tweaks to the map. The biggest difference is at the side structures. They were a bit too powerful if it came to a battle between someone on the floor below and someone on top of them.

So I've added a block on the corner of the platform. This way you can throw your grenades against it and it will deflect and land perfectly on the platform. I then removed the portable shields as they were a bit glitchy. Sometimes you would take them down and they would show up anyway for some people while it showed up broken for others.

Also, on the blue side, I made a small change to the ground on which the Concussion Rifle lays. I used 2x1 flat blocks to make it more smooth in comparison to rocks.

A few other things I did was place health stations more correctly, made some minor changes to some individual spawnpoints and added all kinds of objects so more gametypes could be played like Stockpile, Headhunter and Infection.
