I don't think there have been too many because most of them are awful, so they don't count.

Also, there are plenty of remakes for the Pit. Just do a search and you're sure to find some. Plus, Bungie have made Anchor 9 which is heavily based on the Pit. There aren't any free-floating asymmetric maps in Reach except for Forge World maps The Cage and Pinnacle. And they're both terrible in their own unique way. This game sorely needs a good Lockout map IMO.

Without a doubt the best Lockout remake I have played on, it will be staying on my hard drive for a long time.

My only possible criticism would be that there is no gap for you to fall to your death through if you miss the jump from bottom mid to bottom BR tower. Otherwise, perfect; you have managed to include practically all the important jumps.

Indeed, the problem is the jump height. In Halo 2 you could jump from walkway to walkway due to the huge height clearance. In Reach though, you'd need to jump onto the railings in order to clear a gap that size. And it doesn't feel natural. So the best option was to preserve the natural movement (which meant the walkway had to have a railing missing, and the gap decreased).

Besides, no-one fell down that gap anyway.

Yeah definitely a fair call, I would have done the same thing in your situation. I guess you're right anyway, it has been a very long time since I played on the original and I was much worse back then (and apparently much more prone to falling to my death haha).

I have finally got around to this. And then some. Clicky for the fifth version. I added that jump and added a few aesthetic touches.

I doubt you'd see any Lockout remakes in Matchmaking because of the amount of pieces you need to make it accurate. I would guess the object density is too high in places to pass Bungie's tests.

I downloaded version 5, and I like how you made the jump possible. One thing I noticed you made different is weapon layout. It seems you placed all DMR and NR in place of other weapons, except the power weapons of course. Is this supposed to be an MLG version or what?

I don't really care for weapon placement to be exactly like the original because I like NR. But I would like to see at least one needler and AR, plus two plasma rifles. Plasma rifles are just more fun than repeaters. I do like the placement of the NR in the added window room, but overall, there are too many long range weapons in place.

I do want to make mention of there not being any explosives, but you probably have valid reason why none is in place. I just would like to at least have the explosives where sniper is. People sometimes had this strategy in H2 where they would shoot them to knock down sniper to center platform, and away from their foe. Or sometimes wait patiently and shoot them when their foe tries to grab sniper. And I believe in the original, those specific explosives are set to 'no respawn' (just sayin' because people usually forget that when I've seen remakes of lockout).

If you don't add it, it's not a big deal (as the explosives aren't like the original anyway). But I am curious to know why weapon placement is set the way it is in v5. Overall, best remake for sure, and I hope more people take notice.

If you look in his file share, he has an original weapon set version of the map. The one you downloaded was probably the mlg version.

Yeah, as Draw the Line has said, there is a default version in my fileshare simply called "Lockout" (not the Forgeworld one though, that is ancient and terrible).

This version has all the regular weapons, except the SMG is replaced by the AR, and Plasma Repeaters replace the Plasma Rifles. This is to fit in with Bungie's weapon layout. I didn't want any plasma rifles, fuel rods, spikers etc. as Bungie usually avoid these.

And if you want to make your own edits for your customs, I have no problem with that. Even if you wanted to completely remove the entire grav-lift room, they're your customs, have at it.

As for the fusion core explosions, I'm not sure if you knew, but in Halo: Reach you can shoot grenades and they will explode. And you'll notice that, just like Halo 2, there are plasma grenades right behind the Sniper Rifle, which will knock it down to the middle of the map when detonated. It is a smaller target than the fusion cores however, but it does the trick. Also, unlike the fusion cores, they're not a death trap and they respawn, allowing you to repeat this process whenever you need that sniper rifle. I hope that helps.

I never liked the fusion cores really in the first place, and they had to go for budget and frame-rate issues.

Hey Ash, I'm sure that you've seen this thread Bungie.net : Optimatch : Official Classic Playlist Discussion (March Update). As you know, it is based on an 125 jump, 150 gravity and 120 movement gametype. Is there any chance you could forge a version of your map designed for these settings. I imagine this would mostly involve deleting pieces and jigging around a few others, but it would be greatly appreciated :). It would also improve the overall experience of the map and give people an even more classic feel than currently.
BTW, awesome remake. Very impressed with LOSs and jumps.
Edit: So you know, we are currently using your map in the official classic customs nights, and IMO it is the best of all of the forge maps we are playing with, matched only by Hydra XIII

Ok, I did what you asked: Here is the link.

I was able to make the map flow much nicer because of the extra jump height. Only two jumps to get from bottom-mid to top-mid/mid-sniper now. And I could remove the block that was needed to get from middle of long ramp up to top BR via the antenna.

Also, I made some adjustments to the geometry. I removed pieces on the top of the BR tower since you can jump ontop of the ledges now without the floor being raised. I added the "gap" from bottom mid to bottom BR and that section is a lot more like the original Lockout. I also made the Sword area a lot more visible from the Sniper perch. Overall, it should play much more like the original Lockout, but with a lower budget too (and hopefully better framerate, not that I saw any drops before mind). I got to delete a lot of jump-assisting stuff that is no longer required.

You beautiful, beautiful man. If I was 12, my balls would have just dropped. Since I'm not, they're now swinging around by the floor lol.
Thankyou, this is now probably the most accurate remake EVAR!

Lol, BTW what Ninja are you? I know you aren't NoF and I'm pretty sure you're not Urk
OT: Why don't you use the extra budget to focus on aesthetics. I'm pretty sure that in the building above the sword, there was some kind of railing small shaped piece either side of the partitions, maybe you could add that in.
I've use the extra budget to make that little sloped edge bit in Bottom Lift
I just put a fixed fusion coil on the wall at just below exact jump height and now you can get there.
OR you could add in the fusion on Sniper to stop camping.
    I dunno, your choice :)

No-one camps at top-sniper because it's exposed to anyone at BR-tower. I don't really want to add any more pieces, especially fusion-cores, because of potential frame-rate issues.

Also I'm "ash55", same as my name here.

Stunning remake. There is no doubt. my only issue is that it was made on Tempest. Such a great remake I feel should have been made on Forge World due to the fact that not everyone buys the DLC. And everyone should have the chance to experience this fantastic forge. In fact its not just a map, this is a piece of art for those of us to where there to play the original.

The map was built on Tempest because you won't find the same frame rate problems here that occurred on forgeworld. The map is just better for forging in general, which is why I recommend purchasing the DLC if you haven't already.
