I miss VIP. You could get really creative with that gametype. It's what spawned race and many other great gametypes. Should it make a comeback at least in Forge?

Bringing back VIP would be awesome. One of my favorite maps was an escort style VIP that was (I'm told) a part of the campaign from the Rainbow Six game (series? I dunno, never played it).

But I believe the reason Bungie didn't include the gametype was because of its awful popularity in match-making. I think Bungie thought "Why put the effort in to include a gametype that will only be popular in Custom Games and not MM?" And I understand their view, smart allocation of time and resources and all that fancy stuff we know virtually nothing about.

I am crossing my fingers for VIP to make a return in future updates.

Can't you create a V.I.P. type of game using Safe Havens? Granted the V.I.P. would switch back and forth, but this idea could promote heavy teamwork and protecting of the V.I.P.s.

Using the idea of making two Armor Abilities the Safe Haven, give humans extremely weak traits if outside a radius from the V.I.P./Safe Haven. Give them competitive traits if inside the radius... in other words, killable... but able to resist more damage than if outside the radius. Make the radius fairly small so that they act like a security detail and surround the V.I.P.

If the V.I.P.'s get killed, they lose the protection of the safe haven bonus and become vulnerable.

I don't know about regular VIP. But one-way VIP gametypes can be pretty fun if designed right. :D

I love you. That just gave me so many ideas for gametypes.

My thoughts are making 2 Evade AA's the Safe Havens. First 2 humans to pick them up, are essentially the V.I.P.'s and must coordinate with each other to keep the entire group around them.

50% zombies ( assassins ) with more or less normal traits and maybe assorted loadouts, like evade, sprint, and cloak.

Default human traits something like 75% - 100% weapons damage. No shields. 50% melee damage.

    Safe haven traits. 150% shields ( simulates body armor ). 110% - 120% weapon damage ( simulate trained bodyguards ). 100% melee damage ( self defense ).

Pistols and ARs as the only weapons humans have. Zombies have Swords.

Maps can't have any camping spots. I'd make it like a city streets layout with no buildings to enter, or buildings with 3+ access points to every room. Maybe even a huge office building in which the V.I.P. must start from the ground floor and make it to the helipad on the roof via stairways. I'm thinking that maybe weapon pickup should be turned off so there's limited ammo and bodyguards can't pickup swords.

    That's my thoughts at least.

Just keep in mind that honor rules may be required in order to run these gametypes.

Why would you need honor rules for my variation? Zombies kill the humans/VIP. VIP dies, humans lose a safe haven and don't receive the Safe Haven boost in stats half the time.

I never create nonsensical games which require "honor" rules. It's pointless.

Well all Halo fans should be interested in this.

Bungie.net : Optimatch : A Letter to Jeremiah: Proposal for the Return of VIP

Its a thread on bringing back VIP game type which is the only one that was not introduced into Halo Reach. In its default variant the gametype was ok but what really made it awesome was its customization. Reading the thread will tell you all about it, it has 4 big differences when compared to other gametypes that allows a level customization you can't find in any where else. Custom gametype community really needs this.

Just have your say on the thread and keep it alive.

Agreed I miss VIP too. i had a really sweet SWAT based VIP gametype in Halo 3 that I really wanted to replicate in halo reach. :(

Assuming you mean should 343i bring VIP back, then the answer is yes.

This was made back when Bungie was still in control of Halo. Note the date on the OP.
