Hi All, I've just finished my first map its really just been a trial at gettig used to Forge. Anyways i'd appreciate so feedback from testers? this is the link to the map - Bungie.net : Halo Reach : File Details

Its a small, symetrical map. 4 - 8 players for team DM or free for all. 2 opposing 'bases' 1 sniper rifle in tower. 6 shotguns, 8 grenades, 2 plasma rifles, 2 plasma pistols, 4 DMR, 1 RPG

    Cheers,

    i'll try it out.

just from what i've read, though, 6 shotguns might be slightly insane, and bad for a competitive map. and hopefully when you say "rpg," you mean either the grenade launcher or rocket launcher, not a subtly implanted mod that will cause bungie to smite me

EDIT: tested it a bit, have a bit of feedback:
-the middle area with the semi-circular catwalk, where the rocket launcher spawns, needs some cover. also you should set the rocket launchers' physics to normal, as fixed weapons will hang in the air and get in the way of combat if they are dropped. same for the sword
-smoothing out some of the inclines would be good. there are a number of areas that use little "staircases" instead of proper ramps, which can interfere with movement. it may seem like a small thing, but often during intense combat little things like that can interfere with gameplay.
-6 shotguns is way to much, you should reduce the number to two. maybe replace the other shotguns with non-power weapons, like needlers, assault rifles, magnums, etc.
-the respawn time for a lot of the power weapons could be upped a bit. generally i find most maps have the respawn time in the 2-3 minute range depending on the weapon/clip size. i'm only talking about weapons like the rocket launcher, sword, shotgun, sniper rifle, etc here.

otherwise i guess its decent for a first map. im no expert and have only been forging for a few months, so id wait for what other people say.

    Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I agree after having a 1 v 1 play on this map last night there are way to many shotguns. i'll get some different weapons switched in for these. As for the cover on the central walkways, what would you advise? i wanted to leave the walkways open as they lead to the missile launcher, in game it didn't seem to open (mind it was just 1 v 1) and you could always see someone making a dash for the launcher!

The rush for the Rocket Launcher should always be dangerous, but never so much so that you will always die if you try to get it. Also, less is more, try to use 1 or 2 power weapons on such a small map. If they are readily available, they aren't really power weapons are they? My map I am currently working on is slightly larger, so has more power weapons.(1 Rocket Launcher, 1 Shotgun, 1 Sword, and 1 Spartan Laser) Otherwise, I applaud you sir. You show a level of attention to detail many lack. I like the idea of stairs, but they are a little sticky. That being said, opposite my opinion on weapons, bigger is better when it comes to geometry. You fill the bases and bridge with detail, but leave the open areas untouched. This is one of the biggest flaws map makers create, they make maps where some areas see no action. Every single polygon should at least be a potential spot for battle, not a open space. Perhaps next time you make a similar map, suspend the bridge mid-air. This would deal with all the unused space as well as give the map a unique aesthetic. Otherwise, you did an amazing job for your first time, you have a LOT of potential, and I hope to see you rise in the ranks as a prominant new map maker!

    Hi again,

Thanks for more feedback allways good to receive it! i've updated the map a little - Bungie.net : Halo Reach : File Details
replaced the steps with ramps (even though i loved those steps!) I've added in a little cover and changed out some of the weapons. I think i may get rid of the sword also ... not decided so far on that seams a little much that the tower has the sniper rifle then a quick drop to the energy sword?
The one thing i can take from this map is to not try to stick to closely to a set theme! the problem i had was in deciding i wanted this to resemble an aircraft hangar so even though i wanted to build up more interesting structures at the hangar entrance i was kind of restricted (as in theory aircraft would need somewhere to enter and land!)
Thanks, again for the feedback and i'll be starting map2 soon!
