    Howdy gang, I'm in the process of mapping out, and designing a city style portion of a map, and was wondering... What are some concepts you(FH) would like to share or have incorporated into this map regarding city infrastructure, flow, aesthetics (or some particular features you just like). Now, let's get you up to speed...

    My map (nameless thus far) will incorporate some ideas of my own, and some concepts I've utilized in breaking down other FPS maps. A lot of the inspiration was drawn from CoD, MoH, etc.

    Firstly, I've noticed with cities that a good mix of Indoor and Outdoor combat must take place in order to establish the illusion. The buildings I plan to incorporate are listed below. Some insight/ideas on how these buildings will tie into the flow of my map would be greatly appreciated, but I've pretty much got that on lock.,,

    Second, for a map to be interesting and fun, it needs a Theme. Seeing as my grammatical skills are lacking atm, I'll just plainly tell ya'll exactly what I'm going for.

    'Nameless' is a middle-eastern city built into a canyon, featuring a tall cliff side outpost, and 3 story Hotel, (4 stories if you include the accessable roof) and a few single-2 story buildings to create essential sightlines, routes, etc. Among these buildings, I'll include a Gas Station, which I could use help designing...*hint*hint*

    The overall shape of my map is an equilateral-triangle, where one vertex is the hotel, another the rock outpost, and the last one would be the gas station/smaller buildings.

    I made a gas station in one of my city maps. Lemme see if I can get a picture up for you.

    This was one of the first maps I made, so the design is very basic, the significance is in the functionality. When shot at, the entire station explodes.

    Like I said, it's basic, but it has a button and a pump,and since city maps are costly, it may be a safe bet.

    Well if you want to make illussion you should make something like Coliseum walls in place of canyon walls, and there should be a kill zone so anybody will get to them. Well i dunno but if you'll place them well then it will look like there are buildings.
    Ofc then no banshee/falc on map.

    i've been tinkering around with some fundamental gameplay ideas, and have concluded the following...

    1) There will be a tall, cliff built into the Rock Outpost. From there is the best view of about 50% of the map.

    2) The Hotel will feature 3 stories, 4-5 rooms depending on budget and sightline needs, and will have an accessable roof. The roof will have sandbags placed accordingly to act as cover from certain angles. From the top of the roof, you'll have the best view of the other 50% of the map.

    3) The Roof and Cliff will be about level with each other. That means that when on top of the roof or cliff, you'll be able to see (clearly) the other. Simply put, the cliff sees on top of the roof, and vice versa. (This adds a feel to the game like "it's either cliff or hotel control")

    4) The gas station doesn't necessarily have to be functional, it only needs to aesthetically look good, and provide a recognizable call out for team comm.

    5) I've been tinkering around with Halo's Chopper Gunner (falcon), and have decided I'd like to try to incorporate 1 falcon in the map. Buildings will be placed in accordance to flight patterns, sightlines, etc.

    Well if you played Halo ODST you can remember the gates and walls that separate each part of a city. Maybe you can make Walls and closed gates as a city walls? It will make illussion there is something more but its closed to get there.
    And outside the wall make some coliseum walls that may look like non detailed buildings.

    You can make Falcon that spawn on a roof of hotel maybe, after 180 seconds of a game? It will make the feeling that you need to hold the hotel roof until the backup will arrive.

    for a city I would like detail. different types of buildings like stores, malls, downtown are with skyscrapers, schools, hotels, and maybe a residential area.

    Only problem is I highly doubt there is enough money, objects, and even forge world space to create such a map with so much detail.

    If someone can create a realistic city with detail when an infinite money/object glitch is discover I would be so impressed however.

    anyways....

    I've been using sketchup to compile some buildings, etc. The map is coming along great, as soon as i figure out how to post images i'll show you guys what i've been workin on. Thanks, and have a spectacular evening.

    To show that the city is war torn (it is right?) try to make some destroyed buildings.
    My way to make an illusion is the same as many, put gates/walls up to make the player think theres more
