Habitat Alpha: Based loosely on the location of the same name from Halo 2's "Cairo Station" level, This is a reasonably small map limited to two levels built in Foundry. Habitat Alpha has only diagonal lines of symmetry as one base is a mirror image of the other and each is facing towards the middle. From either base to the right is the stairway, the only access to and from the bases, which leads down to a small alley with a Machine Gun Turret for defence. From there, the map opens up into the main alleyway. The main alleyway has 2 structures the size of 4 Single Boxes with stairways on either side of them for access. Both structures have Window Panels and Fence Walls for a limited amount of defence. The path between the two structures zig-zags to the other Turret Alley and Stairway. The map is littered with all Human Weapons, bar Plasma Grenades. There are 16 Battle Rifles, 2 Shotguns, 2 Sniper Rifles, 4 SMGs, and 2 Machine Gun Turrets, each placed symmetrically to give each team ample weaponry. The map has been set up for all gametypes and tested successfully. You can see Base A in the background behind the 2 Fence Walls and the Window Panel Main Alleyway, View Two View of the alleyway from above Base A, Base B is visible in the background. Please tell me what you think of this map, suggestions, faults, what you like about it, anything. Particularly tell me if there are any chunks of scenery that don't spawn until a wee way into the round, but I think I got them all. Thanks for reading all of this, and Happy Forging! http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=16170583
Re: Foundry Map 'Habitat Alpha' *Screenshots* You put a shotgun next to a sniper. Don't you think that would be over powered? Other than that, I see good weapon placement. Is this symmetrical?
Re: Foundry Map 'Habitat Alpha' *Screenshots* You're right... I should probably move the Sniper Rifles. Symmetrical? Yes. The two bases face each other and there's a mirror image thing going on so facing the opposite base you go to your right to the stairway, but are moving in opposite directions to your opponents. The map is shaped kind of like a 90 degree 'Z' like this: ¯|_ vaguely, more like this: |¯¯¯¯¯| |_ | | | | | | ¯| |_____| So there are diagonal lines of symmetry.
Re: Foundry Map 'Habitat Alpha' *Screenshots* Hey, this map looks great. All of the winding corridors could create some intense combat, while the symmetry could keep things in balance. Basing it off a Halo 2 level is a nice touch.
Re: Foundry Map 'Habitat Alpha' *Screenshots* Thanks, I was floating around Foundry trying to reap inspiration from the limitless fields of memory when Habitat Alpha popped into my head and I realised how cool it could be with a few minor tweaks as a Multiplayer map. In the end, apart from the shape, it's not as much like Alpha as I had planned for it to be, Boxes really aren't the right size, but I'm happy with what came of it anyway. EDIT: Better not double post so I'll stick this update in here: Just got a few matches of this in FFA Slayer. Player count varied from 3 to I think 6. I wouldn't recommend more than 5 for FFA. Some things that I'm changing: - The Starting Points for Slayer, way to close for comfort at the start of the round. - The Rocket Launchers are being deleted from the map. They own it. - The Sniper Rifles are being moved to where the Rocket Launchers were. - The SMGs are being moved closer to the bases. - The Shotguns are being moved to where the SMGs were. So basically the only issues were minor and to do with weapons and weapon placement. All the testers were impressed with the map and really enjoyed it which is encouraging for me. There was some mention of Recon but I think they were a little inexperienced in large scale Foundry maps. They downloaded the map from my File Share, too, so I think they'll continue playing it in future, perhaps they'll come back to it after their match in Guardian which they promptly booted me from to even out the teams. Oh yeah, and I got owned on my own map. It was pretty shameful, but I'm still happy.
