Medusa (in progress) Hey guys. I submitted this map some time ago and it just kinda disappeared in the fold. I didn't think much of it and I moved on to making other map. After a while I decided I like this map too much to not give it a second shot, so I went back into it and did some tweaking. I moved the weapon and spawn placements, deleted and changed some weapons, added some pieces to change around the line-of-sight, and moved some pieces around for various aesthetic or gameplay reasons. I'm seeking your help now. Before I post the updated map with a new name and all, I figured I'd post it here for you guys to see, critique, tear apart, ignore, whatever. Where I need help: Weapon Spawn Time Any type of weapon or spawn placement Lag help Any balance issues Any critique you can think of Weapons on map: 2 Snipes 2 Shottys 2 DMRs 2 Needlers 2 Mags 2 Plasma Repeaters 2 Plasma Pistols 2 Assault Rifles Buncha Frag and Plasma Nades Few Health Packs Thanks for the help guys. Here's the link again: Medusa (in progress)
First of all never have two offensive power weapons (rocket, shotgun, Propipe, Splaser) on a map Second Of all what is the point of the shield doors in the final pic? You need more light weapons (AR, plasma repeater, PP, magnums) Skill weapons are a must (Splaser, PP, DMR, sniper, Magnum) which you have covered. Most maps have 2-6 Plasma pistols Or magnums.
It all depends on the map. I think this map would play fine with the chosen weapons. It doesn't seem too enclosed, or too open in most places. If you need help with weapon placement, remember to put power weapons as an incentive for players to go there.
this map could do with a sniper, and maybe a grenade launcher also, I hate the needler, so I would replace them with needle rifles and replace the ARs with DMRs since you start with ARs in pretty much every gametype This map has plenty of light weapons, which no one uses except if they run out of ammo Just try not to leave a player stranded with no ammo (give them a weapon to pick up) and it should be fine,
When placing power weapons, always consider the Risk Vs. Reward factor. If its a rocket, make the player work for it, make it in a heavily contested area. Power weapons should not be easy to obtain
I completed disagree with this statement. Shotguns can be doubled on the right map, and very rarely, so can rockets, should it be a large map. The rest I'd agree. This on the other hand, I completely agree with.
How many players is this map good for?? Its hard to tell the actual size of the map from the pictures
Thanks for the suggestions guys. It's actually a decently sized map. Not to brag, but I've played a few games on it and it seems to play well with most party sizes. It was somewhat influenced by the Ascension/Pinnacle map, and I'd say it's roughly about the same size. Imagine if the catwalks around ascension also intersected in the middle under the main part of the map, kinda like in Lockout, and you'll have an idea of the size of the map and it's major influences. As far as the weapon suggestions, the reason for the two snipes is because of the size of the map, and because there doesn't seem to really be a good "middle" type spot that would be equidistant from both main team spawn points. Also Ascension has two snipes and I was going for that type of feel. I don't really have a reason for their being two shottys, and honestly, with a little work I could probably find a decent spot to place just one, but I've never really viewed the shotty as as powerful as something like a snipe or rocket. I know it is a very useful weapon, especially in the right hands, but not really a "power" weapon to be fought over. I will probably take your advice on adding more light weapons though. I like the idea of their being a lot of weapons on the map, I just didn't want overkill so I went the minimalist route. Again, thanks for the comments guys. But I'd really appreciate some critiques based on more than just looking at the pics. I'd be glad to return the favor.
