    "Sticks and stones may break my bones..."​


    Hello ladies and gentlemen. This is Preserve, my second forged map. Preserve began as a pretty bad inverse-symmetrical map, and then transformed into this beautiful, room-based, asymmetrical map. Preserve features four rooms, with "easy" transitions into those rooms. The Purple room and the Blue Room are meant to be the "strong" rooms, while the Green and Red rooms are meant to be the "weak" rooms. The map also has Death Pits, which allow you to play Ball or any other objective. Although these Death Pits were not what I was trying to accomplish, they do their job, and they do it well. To keep the rooms balanced, the Death Pits can only be found in the "weak" rooms. Oddball is definitely Preserve's strongest gametype, so if you give this map a try, make sure to check out Oddball on it. The size of the rooms and the "dance floors" are meant to cater to the DMRs optimal fire rate, and the consequent range of the rate of fire. Oh, and if you see a stone at the bottom of a hole, save your soul and protect your soles ;) I hope you like the map as much as I do. A lot of work went into this one.

    For your first post this is incredibly well structured, but that's about the post and not the map. The map actually looks pretty sweet, I'll download and try to get a game on it. That death pit is pretty odd though. There's no need for it really, and it's going to do more harm than good (Honestly it's kind of cool but at some point a dumb ass is gonna jump into it expected something else). Also you might want to change the player count up from 1 because, quite frankly, nobody should play this on their own and that number is supposed to signature the recommended player count.

    I'm from the MLG forums, so I have some experience with Map Thread posts. Thanks for the kind words. The Death Pits are included so that players can through an objective, like an Oddball, into it so that it resets. Also, thanks for the minimum player count advice.
    If you ever get a chance to play on it, gameplay feedback would be highly appreciated.

    I'll try to get a game on it when I can (That shouldn't be until Sunday). Oh yeah, that makes sense I guess. I have quite a few fond memories of games in Halo 3 on Guardian where I would throw the ball off the edge of the map to 'prmotez gamezplai'.

    Does this map work well for 2v2, it seems rather small.

    I haven't tried 2v2s, but I can imagine that it would play well. 4v4s will give fast-paced action though. If you try a 2v2, could you save a film for me so I could watch it?

    I was the dumb ass during one of our first games on it that jumped in a death pit. :p

    Yeah sure Polish, I won't get be able to play this until tomorrow though but I should be able to get a 2v2 together. I will save the film and put it in my file share for you ^^

    I love the look of the map from the pictures, and I like how you put "death holes" in, somehow reminds me of mario :p
    I also like your forging in the 5th picture, that looks amazing IMO.
    isn't the area in picture 8 a bit small or does it just look like that?

    anyway, a DL for sure, good job and keep up the good work!

    Botttom Blue (I think that's what you're referring to) looks small. It's probably because I took the picture really close to the ceiling. But thanks for the praise. Hope you like the map when you get a chance to run around on it.

    Looks awesome in terms of design but a few problems with the MLG weapon requirements for the map. Here's what you need to fix, remove, and/or add:(I don't know if you have the respawn times right, but they're listed anyways):


    DMR x4 -10s (you need 2 more on the map)
    Needle Rifle x4 -60s (you need 2 more on the map)
    Plasma Rifle - Needs to be removed. Not an MLG weapon. I understand that it's your own map and design, but I'm pretty meticulous about keeping up with MLG regulations and all maps should reflect that.
    Health Pack x2 (you need 1 more on the map) - Best placed near each team's initial spawn location.

    I've talked to multiple people regarding the MLG requirements you speak of, and it seems as if there are no actual requirements. Even Ponytar said something along the lines of, "If the map plays well, then there is no need to add things for the sake of adding."

    Here's a list of what has been changed/added for v2:
    -Structure added to Purple to provide cover and break LoS
    -Section of Blue Wall at Top Blue brought in to form a break in the wall to provide cover and to break LoS
    -Overshield added Bottom Red
    -Grenade Launcher spawn moved from near Green Pit to Green Plat
    -Spawns reworked to prevent spawns that have long LoS looking at them
    -Spawns are now saturated into one or two areas of each room to prevent random spawns
    -Improved object coordination is certain areas to increase player awareness of location off of a spawn
    -Cleaned up a lot of areas and also replaced some out-of-place looking objects with better coordinated objects
    -Death Pit in Green Room lowered significantly to prevent newer players from jumping in
    -2 Flag CTF now supported due to the large amount of requests

    Got a chance to play 2v2 Oddball on this today. I'm surprised this map has been overlooked because it played so well. Not only that, but aesthetics weren't sacrificed to achieve it. Fights never consistently took place in one spot seeing as all areas of the map were used equally. I recommend this map to anyone, even people who don't like MLG.

    Feature worthy, nuff said.

    I was in one of the testing sessions for this. It has some pretty nice gameplay, from what I've seen so far. It might have been a lot more fun if Fritzster didn't stand on top of the doors the entire game trying to get assassinations, lol. This was probably one of the least fun maps in the testing session, no offense. It was still good, just not my preferred of the group. Though, we WERE playing teams and this was an asymmetrical map, so I'd say the better mode may be FFA for this one. It was a fun map that had some pretty unique aesthetics and, like one other said, it didn't have to sacrifice gameplay, and that's what counts.

    The pics or walkthrough don't do the map justice, seems more linear than when actually playing a game on here. Ball on Preserve, one of the best combos. Well deserving of an MLG featured map!

    btw, i still jump in ball pits. It's like i'm drawn to them :p
