    My map is based mostly on what the Roman Coliseum is supposed to have looked like in its prime with a little forerunner added in. It is generally symmetrical, having each team spawn on either side of the catacombs under the coliseum. I currently don't consider the map finished myself because it only supports slayer at the moment, but I would like you guys to take a look and let me know if I should change anything before I start putting in objective points.

    The idea behind the setup was that I wanted lots of close quarters combat and choke points in the catacombs below, while allow for more cross map action up above. I am thinking about including some "grass" and rocks in the arena so that it might become a less avoided area. I also thought about a making the roof partially opened similar to a nuclear radiation symbol, but eventually ended up just closing it.

    The weapons on map are generally all of the regular ones plus a sniper, sword, and spartan laser. I'm not sure about the spartan laser, but I figure it will have to stay up top to be useful.

    Anyway, I hope you like my map and please let me know how I can improve it or where I can place objective spawns.

    This is the old version of the map, I haven't posted the new one because I'm still working on gametype setup. My current changes amount to drastically adjusting drop down spots on second floor, strategically placing rocks and grass in arena area, color coding the map to allow for easier orientation, and attempting to clean up the overall choppiness of the map. If there is anything else you think I should do or would like to know before I post the updated version, speak now.

    Thanks, the actual coliseum was supposed to have a big tarp over it sort of like that, but it was thin enough that it still let a lot of light in. I figured it also works to keep jet packers in bounds.

    Very well done for a first map thread. I like the dome as well, very nice looking aesthetically. I like how you used the ramps in picture 4 too, it makes it look way smoother.

    I'm very interested in how the gameplay will fair in this. Seems like either the catacombs or the arena would have lots of traffic and the either would be very unused. The weapon choice seems odd for the map as well. The sword would dominate the bottom area and the sniper would dominate the top area, seems like it would be the case from what I'm seeing.

    Also, there seem to be lots of objects in the map, is there any screen lag? And it looks like some z-fighting would occur on the roof with all those overlapping Brace Larges. I may be wrong though.

    Thx, it seems to do well when you have only one or two players per physical xbox, but i only tested with single console or system link so i dont know how it will do online. it does hav some z-fighting in the stands, but not really on the dome cuz the patterns r fairly simple. I know what u mean about weapon choice, the sword is sort of dominant underneath, but it only has one entrance to that room; plus, I felt the shot gun would be more powerful on both top and bottom, where as the sword is only really good on bottom where grenades will effect it a lot. With the open space I needed a ranged power weapon that wouldnt destroy everything around it. I put a spartan laser because it does destroy everything, but only like 5 shots and u need to both aim and hav timing, as opposed to the other explosives where something eventually just runs in front of it. Right now the catacombs hav most of the traffic, thats y i wanna put rocks in the arena, but im out of money so i might hav to delete some things to do so.

    you should make a race version of this map where they race around the interior and the dome of the map
    cool map on the other hand!!!

    This is very good. Aesthetically pleasing, but you could possibly make this for griffball if you have some money left

    I don't have any money left and the actual arena area is too small for grifball, but I have thought about making a larger version of the coliseum without the catacombs just for grifball or something like that. I have been working on a gladiator gametype to put on this map, but the more I think about it, the bigger I need the arena to be. To be honest, it really puts the coliseum into perspective when you think about how much work it must have taken.

    Downloaded, will try to get feedback later today. Looks very cool. Good source of inspiration too.

    This looks like a great sniper map, but i don't see how slayer would play yet when done in the open interior. I don't see why you think it is too small for grifball. It clearly would be great for odd ball, grifbal, juggernaut, and infection, as well as flag and bomb.



    UPDATE: My review:

    Playing this map, it is good size. Good enough for big team parties. I like the stadium bleachers, you can drop down on them and slide and not die from the fall. Weapon placement seems reasonable.

    The under side is complicated - I can get lost in it. It is noisy (too many objects/walls that go in different directions). The map otherwise is well built.

    This is not a keeper in its current incarnation. Need to clean up the noisy construction through out the lower and outer regions. Interior is great and clean.

    frame rate issues arise when pointing in certain directions in the central interior.

    Outstanding concept and implementation of theme. We had fun playing on it, but I downloaded the map hoping it was match making material (or I would not bother DL'g). Has great potential. Have not yet looked at its spawn object layout.

    6 out of 10.

    Actually it has inspired me... I might try an indoor arena map that is clean. This has a lot of potential for some game types....

    too bad you can't spawn lions... sick map though. this would be a sweet CTF map or sword FFA
