So i just got an hd pvr and I'm having trouble with the quality. When I record it has some very ugly lines in the video:

and also when I go to settings it says lines detected: 480 when on another persons setup video I saw it said 1080. I am open to suggestions about upgrading my hardware.

The Happauge! HD PVR is not compatible with HDMI.
As for the lines... I have no idea. Only thing that comes to mind is to try another Cable Set.

oh i got it. I searched online and found that 1080i doesn't play well with the hd pvr so i changed it to 720p and it works fine. Thanks for the effort though.

Yeah, your video is interlanced (mouvement between two fields in one frame). I'm assuming you're running a Hauppauge right? You could get rid of it in Vegas though I haven't had any problems with interlacing on my HD PVR even on 1080i. Just wondering, why does the pic your provided have a 4:3 aspect ratio? It should be 16:9 if you're recording with an HD PVR, so maybe that's the problem.

Also I recommend just going 720 as most games(if not all) on consoles run on 720.
